The First Year Issue Liberty Racketeer Nickel is handsomely displayed in this goldtone money clip!
The lack of the word 'Cents' on the first year of issue 1883 nickel created the opportunity for corrupt and crafty individuals to scam merchants and other members of the public.
In 1883, the new nickel so resembled the $5 gold piece, one only had to paint the nickel gold and cut the edges. The coin became known as the Racketeer Nickel.

Con artists paid for goods using the Racketeer nickel as a $5 gold piece and would pocket the change. The mint soon released the error and added the word 'Cents'. The money clip measures approximately 1 7/8 inches. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
