Buckyball and Buckycubes Recall FAQ

Q. Why is Brookstone conducting this recall?
A.
Brookstone is conducting this recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (ìCPSCî) and other retailers to help keep our customers safe and prevent injuries from misuse by removing the problem products. This recall is for safety purposes at the recommendation of the CPSC. Anyone who purchased this product from us and returns the complete product together with proof of purchase from Brookstone is eligible for their choice of one of the following: (1) a $10.00 Brookstone gift card, OR (2) their choice of one of three different replacement products. Anyone who purchased this product from us and returns the complete product but no longer has their proof of purchase from Brookstone is eligible for a $10.00 Brookstone gift card.

Q. How can I tell if my product is affected by the recall?
A.
Buckyballs and Buckycubes are very distinguishable if you still have the original packaging for the product. The original packaging has the brand name Buckyballs or Buckycubes on it. If you still have the carrying case that came with the product, the names are also located on the case. If you do not have the original packaging or the carrying case, the product comes in various colors and is a set of either 125 or 216 magnets. Each magnet is either a sphere or cube shape and is somewhere between 3 and 6mm in diameter.

Q. What if I do not have any proof of purchase and am not sure if the product I have is or is not a Buckyballs product?
A.
Brookstone will accept returns of any tiny rare earth magnets at its retail stores in exchange for a $10.00 Brookstone gift card, regardless of whether you have any proof of purchase and regardless of whether the product is or is not a Buckyballs product. However, you will not be eligible for the replacement product unless proof of purchase from Brookstone is presented.

Q. How can I take advantage of the recall?
A.
All you need to do is return your Buckyballs and/or Buckycubes to any of our Brookstone retail stores together with your proof of purchase. You can find the store nearest you by using our ìStore Locatorî feature on our web site (www.brookstone.com). In return, if you return a complete set of Buckyballs or Buckycubes together with your proof of purchase, you may choose either a $10.00 Brookstone gift card or one of three different replacement products. If you do not have a proof of purchase, you may still return your Buckyballs or Buckycubes to any Brookstone retail store in exchange for a $5.00 or $10.00 Brookstone gift card.

Q. What is the problem with my Buckyballs/Buckycubes?
A.
If two or more of the magnets are swallowed, they can link together inside the intestines and clamp onto body tissues, causing serious internal injuries that can lead to death if untreated.  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (ìCPSCî) has received numerous reports of incidents involving ingestion of these high powered magnets from this product, many of these incidents resulted in hospitalization.

Q. My Buckyballs/Buckycubes appear to be okay. Can I continue to use them?
A.
No. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is concerned about the misuse of the products and is asking all consumers to immediately stop using the product and participate in the recall by returning the product to us.

Q. Will I receive a refund for the product?
A.
Brookstone is not able to offer a refund for the product, but we will give you a $10.00 Brookstone gift card or a replacement product for participating in this recall provided that you also provide us with your Brookstone proof of purchase and return a complete set of Buckyballs or Buckycubes. If you do not have a proof of purchase from Brookstone, you are still eligible to receive either a $5.00 or $10.00 Brookstone gift card for returning recalled products to a Brookstone retail store.

Q. What if I do not have any proof of purchase?
A.
Brookstone will accept returns of any tiny rare earth magnets at its retail stores, regardless of whether you have any proof of purchase. However, you will not be eligible for a replacement product without the proof of purchase.

Q. What if I no longer have the complete set of Buckyballs or Buckycubes?
A.
Brookstone will accept back any amount of the Buckyballs or Buckycubes you may have, regardless of whether you are returning a complete set. However, if you return a partial set containing a minimum of at least 100 Buckyballs or Buckycubes, you will only be eligible to receive a $5.00 Brookstone gift card. If you return a partial set containing less than 100 Buckyballs or Buckycubes, Brookstone will accept the return but you will not be eligible to receive any compensation for such return.
