We purchased this mat for my mother, who has leg and back problems. She loves to cook, and is always in the kitchen, but had started avoiding it when her health issues arose. After getting this mat, she is able to stand at the counter and roll dough out for cookies, etc and not have to sit in pain afterwards.
She loves the mat. That is not what is making me write this review. This past weekend we got together and were having lunch. I put a basket of french fries into the FryDaddy - and disaster struck! The level of oil was too high, and the 400 degree oil boiled over onto the counter..and all over the floor.
My mother's first reaction was "My mat!! It's going to be ruined!". She was so upset. The oil covered the mat, as well as part of the floor and the counter top. After waiting a minute for things to begin cooling down, I used paper towels to clean the mess.
Not only was I able to stand slip-free on the mat with oil covered sneakers, but after all was cleaned up - there wasn't a single imperfection on the mat. No discoloration, no melted edge, no bubbling, etc. I expected it to be ruined. You would never even know that approximately 2 cups of 400 degree oil had been poured over it.
The counter top was another matter, it was linoleum covered and did not survive the accident.

This mat is very comfortable to stand on. It's being used in an office setting and was originally purchased for safety reasons. I have to say that if you stand on it in heels, you feel quite wobbly. I wouldn't recommend for an office setting, but we had one elderly partner who insisted on it for our kitchen after tripping (not slipping). I would only purchase this mat for a kitchen setting where one may stand for a period of time or outdoors on a deck or in front of a BBQ.

Bought for my mom as a gift in the kitchen at the sink. She is 90 years old and her feet frequently hurt plus I worry about her tripping. With this gel mat having the tapered sides that is not a concern. When you step on it, your comment is going to be "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww". I would love it wall to wall in the house !!
