The reason it is unique is because of the pillow shape. Most winders have one size pillow and if you have a large wrist the diameter of the pillow is usually two small. You must wedge something in between the band and the pillow to stop the watch from flopping around.
With the unique pillow shape here you can put smaller size bands on one way and larger size bands on the other way, and your watch is snug.

I really want to like this watch winder, but....
Like other reviewers have said, the power cord falls out of the back of the unit regularly. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to tighten it or make it stay in. I have used the winder for almost a month now and have yet to find a TPD setting that keeps my Breitling (B01 movement) running. In addition, the winder does not have a rest period like other winders.
I do like the way it looks and the fact that it always stops in the 12 o'clock position leaving your watch in the upright position when it's time to take it off. The price is great and I really wish this winder worked for me.
Brookstone customer service was very nice and sent a return shipping label quickly.

Before I bought the winder, I had to wind my Ventura watch 40-50 times each morning. If I didn't wear the watch one day, the watch was not keeping time. The watch, by the way, had been sold to me as a traditional wind-up watch, which it is not. The winder keeps it alive!
My metal watch band really must squeeze the little holder unfortunately.

This product was a bit larger than expected. It turns every minute and a half. The watch never loses time. It is so quiet you cannot hear it even at night next to the bed. It must be kept plugged in. Plug is a bit bulky and won't work well behind a dresser that is close to a wall.
