Job: SEO Marketing Senior Specialist

Job: Senior Indirect Tax Accountant
Location: Corporate Headquarters, Merrimack, NH

SUMMARY:

This position is primarily responsible for final review of all Sales & Use tax returns prepared by other Tax Department staff personnel. This may include preparing and filing several complex Sales & Use tax returns and assisting with all sales tax audits. The position will also coordinate filing multiple excise tax and other indirect tax returns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales and Use Tax:
  1. Sales & Use Tax Returns:
    • Responsible for the accurate preparation and filing of all Sales and Use Tax Returns. This primarily includes detailed review of S&U returns prepared by Tax Department personnel.
    • Maintain and regularly update the VERTEX sales & use tax software program including rate changes and file updates.
  2. Coordinate sales & use tax audits, including workpaper preparation. Handle direct contact with the auditors, gathering documentation and responding to auditor requests.
  3. Respond to sales tax notices.
  4. Primary responsibility for monthly tax account GL reconciliations.
  5. Maintain Vertex TDM file, and Notify IT of monthly rate changes.
  6. Periodic special projects related to accounting and computer systems for S&U tax.
  7. Monthly S&U tax account journal entries and Budget-to-Actual analyzes.
  8. Review fixed asset self-assessed use tax.
  9. True-up and adjustment of catalog use tax expense monthly.
  10. Maintain sales tax filing calendar.
Indirect Taxes
  1. Detailed review and coordination of Federal Excise Tax compliance including preparation of semi-monthly tax analysis, payment filings, and quarterly Form 720 preparation. 
  2. Coordinate Property Tax data collection and review data before transmittal to third-party tax return preparer for all store locations. Also includes assistance in responding to communications from third-party preparer, reviewing Property Tax returns (where needed) and coordinating Property Tax audits responses.
  3. Detailed review of periodic returns for all other state and local environmental taxes, annual receipts taxes, etc.
  4. Prepare or review Puerto Rico import sales tax returns and property tax returns.
Other
  1. Monthly income tax account reconciliations.
  2. Assist in assembling data for bank audits and year-end financial statement audits.
  3. Assist in assembling data for federal and state income tax accounting workpapers, quarterly income tax payments, or state apportionment information where needed.
REQUIREMENTS:

Essential: 
  • 5 years experience preparing sales tax returns in multi-state jurisdictions.

Job: Assistant Controller

SUMMARY:

This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, under the guidance of the Controller. REQUIREMENTS:
  • BA/BS in accounting or finance. CPA a plus.
  • 7-10 years progressive accounting experience. 3+ years of industry accounting experiences preferably in Retail;
  • Strong computer and accounting software expertise a must.
  • Strong knowledge of all facets of operational accounting including: Heavy reconciliations, Inventory control, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and General Ledger.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting and Payroll (GAAP) principles, accepted retail/cost accounting practices and policies.
  • Hands-on manager who is results-oriented. Through active, dynamic leadership, defines responsibilities and sets goals for accounting team, and empowers team members to meet those goals.

Brookstone District Management, Store Management & Sales



Store Sales Manager
  • Responsible for managing one store.
  • Innovatively manages the Store by driving sales performance and controlling expenses.
  • Attracts and develops Store Management and Sales Associates who can successfully close sales with our Customers.
  • Previous retail management experience required, including responsibility for total Store operations.
Assistant Store Sales Manager
  • Assists the Store Sales Manager in all aspects of managing the Store and driving sales performance as detailed above.
  • Previous retail management experience required.
Second Assistant Store Sales Manager
  • This is an entry-level, non-exempt Management position.
  • Assists the Store Sales Management team in maximizing sales performance, both individually and through effectively directing the Sales Associates.
  • Previous retail experience, preferably with some supervisory experience.
Seasonal Manager and Seasonal Assistant Manager
  • During the second half of the year (generally, anytime between mid-Summer through December), Brookstone opens temporary/seasonal Stores throughout the country that close no later than during the week after December 25th.
  • These are hourly-paid positions.
  • The duties of the Seasonal Manager mirror those of the Assistant Store Sales Manager above, and the duties of the Seasonal Assistant Manager mirror those of the 2nd Assistant Store Sales Manager above.
Sales Associate
  • Able to actively and warmly engage the Customer and develop an instant rapport.
  • Meet individual sales goals by using in-depth product knowledge and selling skills.
  • Previous sales experience is helpful.
