Sphero is the first robotic ball gaming device that you control with a tilt, touch or swing from your smartphone or tablet. It connects via Bluetooth® wireless technology with your iPhone®, iPad® (all versions), iPod touch®, or Android™ device* for over 50' of wireless control. When I first got my Sphero I was a little skeptical about the hype. After I started digging into their website ( [@] ) I realized that this was much more than a robotic ball that I can control with my smartphone. I was showing this off to people, most people have no idea how this works! I am not a developer but I like to play with code, this thing has an SDK for iOS and Android which is totally awesome! My cats got bored of it, but taping some string to it fixed that. ( not my idea, I saw this on the Sphero cat video ). I thought it was expensive, but after I got it, it is totally worth it. I dropped it off a 5 foot table onto concrete, I was terrified! but my Sphero still drives great, which is awesome. Try it out, get involved! They have awesome videos!

I was really excited to recive this product in the mail. I had watched all the videos related to it and thought Sphero was a very cute toy. I opened it right away and started to hook it up to an iPad. Once the initial fun wore off I began to realize that Sphero seemed very fragile, completely unlike the adds specifily it as having an "opaque, high-impact polycarbonate shell on the outside". The shell which I thought was more murky, translucenty color felt very thin and the built in light inside only shone through to the outside in a few places. And to tell you the truth you had to realign Sphero's "tail-light" many times over the course of the time I played with it. Overall I am displeased with this little robot. This would be a pretty cool toy if only the price would come down ALOT, somewhere in the range of a lower-end, remote controlled helicopter. This item will be in the mail back to Brookstone tomorrow.

Sphero is innovative and fun to play with right out of the box, and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The best things about Sphero are the growing library of apps available on the website, and that users can learn to develop their own apps. Purchased this at a great price at Brookstone for my twenty-something engineer son for Christmas - he loves it.

This thing is great in so many ways, however, it can be a bit pricy, understandable for seeing what it can do, but say like someone wanted one but they couldnt afford it. Only problem with it though.

I bought of these for my kids and we race around the house and play all kinds of creative games with apps that you download, 7 as of this review. You can use with your iPad or iPhone. Very well made rugged build and it's water proof too so you can race in the pool. Dogs love to chase it around and I brought one to work, placed a coffee cup over it and you should have seen the heads turning and people looking for candid camera. Great product, two is better than one so you can race and have more fun.
