Using mine at work as I keep nuts and candy near my desk. This is so much more sanitary than people sticking their hands in the bowl. So far, it dispenses the correct amount to both men and women. We are thinking of buying several more to accomodate other snacks. Three people headed to the mall to get one of their own, so I think it's a winner.

This is a very cool product. I had bought my dad the larger version and it worked fine. However this smaller version only works probably 1 in 4 times you swipe your hand under it. If I put a tissue on my hand it almost assuredly dispenses. It's like the sensor isn't strong enough or isn't sensitive enought and requires and larger surface area to be covered than the average hand. Oddly enough, men have the hardest time getting it to work. I was going to return it but now the novelty is "can i get it to work this time". I've used m&m and candy corn. It's functionality doesn't discriminate between candy types.
They offered to replace it, but the UPS guy had the return label and I had to leave the product on my doorstep and wait till Brookstone got it and then they'd send me a new one. Seemed a hassle to me. I'd rather they email me the label and I return it at my leisure. There is just so much going on at my house I kept forgetting to box it and leave it! I give up.

Got this for my parents who like to have candy available for the grandkids. They used it for jelly beans. Even when they weren't in the room, the machine would sometimes dispense, releasing jelly beans onto the floor. Also had some issues with it dispensing when people walk near it. It's in a closet now.

We primarily use this for almonds. We have tried a couple of different dispensers, and always ran into bad luck with almonds "jamming up". This one does a great job. Throws out approx. 5-7 at a time. No problems yet.

We received this as a gift I had requested. We eat alot of nut mixes, so thought this might be a quick convenient way to eat them, it is, however if it is too full the weight jams the rotating dispenser and needs to be shook, it also is VERY sensitive to light despite cleaning the sensor as suggested, so every time the light is turned on or off it dispenses nuts on the counter. We now keep the unit "off" to prevent this. I mistakenly opened the clear top without pressing the button and broke the very small but critical plastic piece so now it won't stay together, in the garbage it goes since I don't see replacement parts. However, I will order a new one since it's convenience outweighs the negatives. Patience is a virtue.

While the item looks good, I was immediately greeted with a strong glue odor from what appears to be the mechanism. Cleaning and wiping per directions did little and this glue affects the flavor of the snacks. What's more, some larger snacks, even specificically mentioned in the instructions as acceptable, like peanut and almond M & Ms, will ALWAYS jam the mechanism right from the start. Even some of the pieces of the smaller snacks like Cheerios, highlighted on the box, end up crushed when being dispensed. The Snackman also requires occassional shaking to allow the flow of the snack to continue through the mechanism - otherwise your hand will end up empty each time you activate it (And no, I am not referring to the couple of activations required when you first fill the SnackMan). I truly hoped this product would be a convenient way to dispense snacks but find it is totally unusable and suggest others think very carefully before purchasing.

Saw the larger dispenser at work and it worked great. Ordered the smaller one for my father to put in his office reception area. The sensor that reads whether your hand is there or not is not sensitive and takes a couple of times to get it to work. Not sure if this happens with all of them or if this one is defected.

Unit was well received and liked. Using peanut M&M's the unit often would not dispense as the larger candy would get stuck in the dispense screw. The dispenser makes noise but it must have a built in safety to keep the screw from actually turning when it gets jammed. Constantly activating and shaking the thing would finally cause it to dispense but it would crush the M&M's and you'd get shell bits and a peanut. Will try it with other candy but it was really bought with the idea of using that specific one.

This was a great item for a short period of time. It stopped working after a week. With the return policy of paying my own shipping....it looks like I am going to have to try to fix it myself. Maybe I just got a dud.

This is a great machine for your daily snacks. We use it for raw almonds. Now, instead of unscrewing and reaching into a jar every day, I wave my hand under the machine and get a nice handful of almonds. The three different settings are great to determine exactly how much you want. Highly recommend this unique device :-)
