Not usable with high-power devices

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I took this transformer with me on a trip to London, Great Britain.
Please note the following before purchasing.
1) The transformer is heavy.
2) The transformer is quite large.
3) The plug on this transformer is not the same one used in Great Britain. You will need to buy a plug adapter. However, when you buy a plug adapter, the weight of the transformer will cause the whole assembly to fall, requiring you to prop up the transformer with something.
4) I attempted to plug in a laptop, whose adapter rating was 72W. The transformer got really hot and started to smell (like burnt solder). I would advise not to use this transformer with any device that has a power rating close to 85W. I think the transformer is unable to handle it.
5) This worked fine for charging a Nintendo DS Lite, so I suspect it only works for devices of low power ratings.
6) Some devices are dual voltage (120V or 240V), so this transformer may not be needed.
I am planning on returning this and finding a transformer that has a higher power rating to handle power-hungry electronics. For small electronics like cell phones, DS, and digital point and shoot cameras, this transformer should be sufficient.

This was a very useful product while traveling in Europe. It powered everything from computers to phones to TV's to hair dryers to irons. One negative is that it only comes with one size plug - a size that did not work in Switzerland. Fortunately, we had adaptors from another converter unit to use on this. One negative could be its weight - to feel comfortable, we used books or other items to support it.

We bought four of these when we moved overseas and took all of our appliances with us. These little adaptors have saved us a fortune over purchasing local electronics and appliances. I was able to keep and use my CuisinArt food processor, Kitchen Aid mixer, and various other small kitchen appliances. My husband was able to power his stereo and electric instruments. A cost of [$] was nothing compared to the thousands of dollars it would take to replace all of our items. One of the best investments I've ever made.
