I bought this lamp for my 86 year old mother-in-law who has been diaganosed with macular degeneration. The lamp allows her to read books and the daily newspaper which she wasn't able to do with a conventional lamp. The only slight problem is that since the lamp is positioned behind her chair, she had difficulty turning it on and off at first, but we repositioned it for her and it made her favorite pastime possible again.

The natural quality of light is crucial to doing art work
The flexible design is also very important for adjusting where the light falls either on my canvas or on the model
It's a great reading lamp too, especially when I'm sitting in an armchair. I think the grillwork is a good idea because these lamps can shine directly in your eyes too much if you don't put them behind you or keep the bulb below your eyes

I own the Verilux "Rise and Shine" lamp and really like the light spectrum and product quality. I needed a reading lamp and saw this Verilux item. This is a great light with two brightness levels. The only improvement I'd want is to increase the size of the removable tray to hold a book.
