This is the best alarm clock I have owned! You never have to set it, oh and yes - the alarm is loud but isn't that what you want? I keep the backlight feature off because I like a dark room but one tap on the snooze and it lights up briefly so you can check the time! Awesome!

I almost love this clock. I really like the way the alarm works. It's easy to set, and the popup button makes it very easy to see whether or not the alarm is on. When you push one (or both) of the alarm buttons, it pops up to tell you it's set. The wake up time also appears on the display, a nice feature. To turn off the alarm, you merely push the button down. The self setting feature has worked perfectly for me. On the negative side, the alarm is much too loud. It's advertised as a gradual increase, but the initial burst is still loud enough to make me start, even when I'm asleep. A gradual alarm should start out a whole lot softer. I also wish the clock had an LED display. Having an LCD display means it needs a backlight. Even at the lowest setting, it's a lot brighter than an LED display. I like to sleep in the dark. You can turn the light off completely, but then you don't know what time it is at night. The brightest setting is almost bright enough to read by. Despite these two things, I really do like this clock a lot, and would recommend it to anyone who wants a simple alarm clock that works well.

I returned the first one to the store because of buzzing when light is dimmed. They assured me at the store that the defect had been fixed and was not present in the new batch. The second clock buzzes also. Disappointing to have such poor quality at this price.

The first time I plugged this clock in, it set to 12 hours and 15 minutes off of the correct time. I then followed the instructions and manually set the clock. In the morning, the clock was off and the alarm never went off. I tried resetting it and I tried unplugging it and starting over, but nothing worked after that. Very poor product.

This is my 5th clock in 3 years. I could never set any of them properly without reading the directions over and over. This one is so easy.
The only bad thing about it is you have to remember to pop the button each night.

Great features, but one bad design flaw. When brightness is set to intermediate value, a loud buzzing makes it difficult to sleep. Happened in 4 samples from store. Also, starting alarm volume too high (should be adjustable)

This alarm clock is very versatile. With the two different alarm times (both super easy to set) you can wake two people up at two times without resetting or you can sleep thru the first and get up with the second!

No more guessing at the time. It's always right. Dim-able feature is perfect for bedroom use. Goes from soothingly dim to almost bright enough to read by. No more fumbling for light switches or glasses in the dark. I use the 2 alarms for early and late days. Dual alarm settings save constantly changing alarm each night. Easy to tell if the alarm is set.

However, when I use the dimmer switch (lighted background) the clock buzzes. Makes no buzz sound only when backlight is completely off or completely on. I'd like to use a medium backlight at night and can't because of the buzzing. Disappointed.

We purchased 2 of this product. 1 works great, the other brightness constantly runs through all the settings and the highest setting keeps us awake. Being a Canadian resident not easy to get service.

I had a clock from 30+ years ago and the alarm was just very disturbing. I wanted an alarm that wouldn't jar me. This is it. The alarm is perfect. I love the big numbers for the time, the fact I can make it dimmer, and the GREAT EASE with which I can set my two alarms. I also Love that I can see if I've set the alarm because it is popped out. The fact that it sets itself is just icing on the cake!

I use this daily. Unfortunately, it simply stopped keeping time! I'd unplug then replug it and it would re-set itself to the wrong time. No matter what I did I could not get it to re-set to the correct time zone.

The dual alarms are very useful. The clock is very accurate..This was one of my better on line purchases.

It was easy to set up. The large button on top is easy to find and makes it easy to shut off in the dark after it has gone off. Different levels of brightness, plus being able to have it dark is a nice feature. However - while it sets itself, it is about a minute behind the other 3 radio setting devices that I have in my home and they are all perfectly synchronized. I also thought that it said that alarm volum built slowly. It just starts off loud.

This is a nice product and works as advertised. I particularly appreciate the brightness setting on the LCD display, which my previous clock - from [...] - did not have! I was really glad to consign that piece of junk to the garbage where it belonged.

The clock is great. The dimming issues mentioned by a few others is non-existent... there are enough steps to find a level that would work for virtually anyone. However, rather than create 4 or 5 distinct brightness settings for the display, a rheostat would have been a better choice.

My only other negative is that the crescendo effect of an alarm that gets increasingly louder as time goes on and the buzzer progresses, would be much improved if the increase took twice as long. By the time I get up from bed, walk around the end to the dresser, the buzzer is terribly and uncomfortably LOUD... it SCREAMS at you.

Otherwise, the clock couldn't be simpler to use. Plug it in, and it sets itself. It's a no-brainer. Great Product.

I like the clock because of the ease of setting - bought 2 of these - 1 for just the alarm and one with the clock. Since they are self setting you would expect that they would set to the same time. They didn't. One of the clocks was always 2 or 3 minutes off! I called Brookstone and told them my issue (it sounded like I wasn't the first to call.) They are replacing it without a problem.

I like the clock and would buy it again!

This would be a great clock if:

1. You could adjust the volume. It starts way too loud and gets annoyingly loud as it crescendo's.

2. the backlight was improved. It is way too bright on the higher settings at night and too dim to see on the lower settings.

If those were improved, this would be the perfect alarm clock.

I love this clock so much. It keeps the right time and wakes me up when I need to be up. I like the different dim settings and the alarm noise. I have had other similar alarm clocks that set themselves and they are not as good and reliable as this one. This clock is worth buying.

Very nice product for those of us that have fairly frequent power outages. Only complaint is that you have to place the clock at eye level in order to read the display at night. If it's up higher, the angle whites out the numbers and you cannot read it.

Love my new alarm clock...it keeps great time! Really like the two alarm settings and the alarm sound is not as offensive as many other alarm clocks. The alarm starts at a lower volume and then increases the longer it stays on. I liked it so much that my husband ordered one for himself. He likes it also...especially the modern silver housing. Great visiblity and the number of brightness settings are a plus. The clock's highest brightness setting equals a night light if so inclined. My husband and I both really like this clock! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a highly efficient and effective alarm clock!

This is the perfect alarm clock. It is so easy to use. You can't accidentally change the actual time because it sets itself. The only things you can change are alarms 1 and 2. Another great feature is that the actual time and both alarm times are displayed on the same screen together. There is no switching back and forth between screens to change alarm times. I did a lot of research and this is the easiest, most reliable alarm clock I've seen for a reasonable price. It has a very attractive and user friendly design. The backlight can be as bright or dim as you want. It has a battery back up. It's just great!

I've been looking for a reliable clock with an easy-to-read display for a while. This one meets every need I have. I really like that it has two alarm clocks. The sound of the alarm gradually increases to awake even the heaviest sleepers. Everything on this clock makes sense to me. The only thing I would change is the color of the display. The display would be easier to read if the background wasn't white-ish.

My sixteen year old kept turning off her alarm instead of hitting snooze by mistake. This clock corrected this problem. Also,now when the power goes out and the clocks need resetting, we ask HER, "What time is it?".

I used to rely on battery-operated alarm clocks to avoid having to reset them after blackouts. This clock is not only attractive, but extremely functional.

What I love about it:
1. The 24-hour clock format
2. Fewer buttons mean fewer complications.
3. Alarm pop-up button makes it extremely easy to see if it's been set. (Not activated = button stays hidden inside the unit. Activated = button stands up on top of the unit.)
4. Two available alarm settings. (I use #1 for the workweek, and #2 for other days.)
5. Adjustable backlight.

I did not encounter any issues with the backlight as the first reviewer did. I have it on the dimmest setting and I can easily see it in the dark without it being too bright.

The only thing that is "great" about this is the self-setting feature.

Two disappointments:

1. The alarm starts very loud--too loud--so I can only imagine what it sounds like at the highest volume.

2. The back lighting is very bright, even on its lowest setting.

Overall, product is overpriced.

Love the fact that it sets itself after the power goes out and to daylight savings time- but even on the lowest light setting- it is too bright in my bedroom- and I don't want to turn the light off completely because then I can't see it it all.

Great clock with 1 big flaw. Display is unreadable at night unless on high which is then too bright. Numbers, not the background should be illuminated

For years I've been looking for a clock with (1) LCD display; (2) persistent backlight; and (3) AC power. Someone's finally made a clock that can be seen in broad daylight and with an adjustable backlight for night. Kudos.

I know the designers are trying to keep things simple, but a dedicated dial/button for the backlight dimming would be nice.
