Several *major* problems with this clock:

1. Backlight & projection are linked - when the projection is turned on, the backlight is on too - not a problem for a momentary check, but makes the permanent projection useless due to brightness.

2. Battery only - no plug-in. Batteries as a backup in case of power loss are great. Batteries as the *only* way of powering the clock is bad (there is a plug, but it is only for permanent projection).

3. The projection is much too bright. Even if the backlight was not permanently on, the projection alone lights up the room.

This clock would be so much more useful if it didn't light up the room like the mid-day sky. It is truly too bright to sleep in the same room with. Brookstone, or whomever designs this clock, should either tone it down or include a dial with which the user can ratchet down the brightness.

I should have read the reviews before buying this product. (But, I bought it in the store before checking online) The previous reviewers are right, it is WAY too bright. The clock lights up the room and kept waking me up. I had to unplug it in the middle of the night. I would look for a clock with a red light instead of the blue light that it projects. The blue light is too bright.

It seemed that I was always on the wrong side of the bed to see the clock and would have to sit up to see the time. Now I just look at the ceiling where we have it projected, and it's great. Also for those who have vision correction there is no need to put on your glasses to read the time.

For a sleepy-head like me, it's nice not to have to even raise my head to see the time! I've had one similar before, but wasn't nearly as easy to set, in fact, this is the easiest alarm clock to set, ever. Love my clock! Bought one for each of my two children.....

Thought this was an atomic clock, but it isn't. Projection on wall is just OK, kind of elongated numbers. There are better ones out there and less expensive.

I really enjoy being able to see the time on the ceiling while I lay in Bed. Before my clock was so far away and I had to strain to see it, now I can easily see it, even with my glasses off! the only set back is that it is difficult to turn the projection light off.

In this green age I find it surprising that Brookstone would manufacture a product that needs both the battery and being plugged in for projection use (the main reason to buy this clock over any other). The only problem now is my kids think it's the coolest thing so we can't get rid of it. I make them shut the projection off in the morning so it doesn't suck more energy but even that is not simple as they have to open the battery cover to turn the always on switch to off. Poor design.

the projection is great for the ceiling and I can see the time (if I'm looking up) in the middle of the day and have it behind my bead so I don't have to look back while in bed and I can see it from every other angles when not. the only con is that the light is really bright at night but it's about as bright as my computer snooze blinking light, the standby tv light and my cell phone charging light so I guess it's not that bad.

This clock lights up a room at least as bright as a night light. The bright blue numbers are super illuminated in a medium bright blue box. It is way too bright. I returned mine and was 5 days after the return deadline, couldn't get a refund, so I just left it at the store...I disliked it that much!

I found this product to be nothing I expected. Friends have similar items which work. The projection of the time, etc. was so poor as to be difficult to even see. The construction was poor - very cheap in appearance. I suppose the argument could be made "What do expect for that price".

I got this for my dad because he wanted a clock with projection. He was able to set it up so that the light from the clock displaying the time on the wall was far away and very dim, not glaring. One thing he mentioned was that you had to put batteries in to set the time even though there is a supplied ac adapter.

Works very well, after a while though the projector may get dim...but, it works great even on high ceilings. I had 2 previously that I was unsatisfied with and were completely unreadable on high ceilings but this one worked.

This clock is somewhat difficult to set, the switches are small and awkward. The screen is very bright as I leave it on using the power cord. The projection onto the wall is not real clear or focused, even using the dial to focus. For the cost, probably better clocks out there.
