Setup was easy but older tapes that play fine on vcr won't play on this. Worked good for more recent tapes other than software freezing occassionally. For older tapes (over 10 years) it plays and records them all fuzzy. Since most people want to transfer older tapes this is a problem --big problem for me. Unfortunately, I bought this and tried it after 90 days had passed. Warranty is 90 days and after that you are stuck. So if you decide to purchase, use right away. I would not purchase an ION item again due to the poor quality of the item and short warranty.

Using the video player I found great differences depending on the source video tape. Some didn't record at all. The tapes I tested work fine in my regular VCR, so although I have not tried it yet, I'd tend to follow other reviewers' comments about using an outside source for the video and just use the VCR2PC for converting to digital

Quich to set up and use. Copies VHS with ease, and allows for tranfer to DVD. I have moved my VHS format OLDIE Movies into DVD using this machine with no issues. Only drawback is the size is lager than other standard VHS players.

I was so excited to see that I could convert old VHS tapes to a more convenient source of media. Unfortunately the program still has issues with Microsoft XP Vista and we can not get it to work. I think it would be a great tool to help with restoring and preserving family memories for generations to come

I bought this for my girlfriend's birthday as we are spending a winter in Yellowstone. She doesn't ski and she loves making movies with her out dated 8 mm recorder. What promised to be a boring winter for her has now become filled with not only the downloading of analog tapes, but the movie creating she has been able to do with the editing software. Thank you for saving my girlfriends winter.

I had to add more memory to load software, but it worked fine after that. Some videos played poorly so I used another VCR player and attached to the "Other" connection as someone suggested and got better results. The editing is very simple and I liked that after copying segments to DVD I can go back to the saved video file and "Reset" to get all the original clips back. Making DVD for all my grandchildren of their birthday parties starting from birth. Its time consuming but I'm really enjoying it.

This is an easy to use straight conversion to a digital format with no edits product.

It did have trouble playing the oldest rustiest tapes but you can just piggy back a VCR throuh it.

The package says it is easy to use, but there are no instructions. Had to download the manual from the web-site, and am still having a hard time creating DVDs from the videos. It is not as easy as they say it is.

This is a Dream Machine because you can transfer ALL your old VHS tapes to DVDs!!!

Now...it took me a long time to figure out which DVDs would fit my computer. So I made lots of purchases and returns before I found out that my computer did not have a DVD burner. So...I used my laptop (which had a DVD burner). Then I was able to transfer the VHS to the DVD...BUT not exactly the way the directions are given. So I am still trying to get it to transfer according to directions. I have gotten some good reproductions and they will get better with practice!

This can become a Dream Machine with lots of practice and if you know what you are doing.

This is a simple-to-use device.
The software was a bit scary, because it is not Microsoft-approved, and you get a warning before installing it. I installed anyway, and my screensaver no longer works. Coincidence? Who knows, and no big deal. You play a VHS tape in the vcr, plug the USB cable to your pc, and can easily make digital recordings of your home movies, or things recorded off TV. I don't think you can make recordings of movies you have purchased on VHS. The editing software isn't the best, but is sufficient. I have made DVDs of longer recordings, and uploaded shorter ones to the internet.

when we first hooked it up it worked great - downloaded alot of VHS tapes to the computer which we transferred onto DVD's. After about the 20th VHS tape, it got real screwy. The preview screen which show what was being downloaded was green and purple. Jiggled the USB cable into the laptop, and the other end which went into the VCR2PC and it worked ok. Never know if it is going to work or not. Really would not purchase again.

I bought this unit to copy 3 VHS cassetts of family history dating from 1947 to 1973, 8mm films that were taken by Grandad during those years. was able to copy all three to 3 DVD's using a double layer DVD writer. Lots of stuff on the DVD's.

Instaaled without much troble and was playing my old VHS tapes after only a minor setting. the prodout does as advertised.

The VCR did not track well with any of my tapes. Fortunately the machine has an "other" setting, so I hooked up our VCR to the machine and played it through the VCR2PC, and after just a few false starts got some really good quality DVDs. It works with all the videos on the computer including the Windows Movie maker videos so I can give gifts of DVDs to friends. I just don't understand why they put such a poor quality VCR on a product with such a good premise.

I had home videos from an old 1999 JVC video recorder. The tapes were small and you had to use a special holder that fits into a vhs player. It worked really well with the ION. I wish I could've used my MAC but my laptop ended up doing just fine.

The Ion definitely does what it says: converts VHS (and SVHS) to digital. The original footage on your hard drive does NOT change. The editing tool is very rough (no transitions or fine tuning), and you need to burn the edited version onto disc in order to share it online or otherwise. With one tape, despite saving the edited version, I lost all of my changes when I closed the program. However, the picture and audio is crystal clear. I plan on using it quite a bit with VHS and my camcorder videos.

This product is very useful and very easy to use. I can clip out the parts that I don't want converted onto the DVD, to make kids able to watch video's. I only wish it was able to let me insert chapters or a menu at the beginning like a regular DVD would.

the product screams "easy to use" and in some ways it is. but dispite the obvious effort to make user friendly it is very difficult to find out how to do certain things or even IF you can do those things. basically it looks easy and simple but that only applies to a couple of functions .. . but understand they are the key functions . . .after that .. good luck.

I really wasn't so sure about this item when I read the reviews before purchasing it, I was kind of like , "there has to be some kind of catch" , well the joke is on me.
Within about a weeks time after getting the product we were able to transfer all our VHS tapes to digital format , very time consuming it was but like I said , it only took us about a week.
I really don't have any complaints about this product at all , it was very easy to set up and get started and the instructions are very easy to understand.

It does not read some vhs tapes properly. Its slow because the tape has to play it would be nice if you could fast forward the tape and have it pick up information that way.

The Ion VCR to PC was extremely easy to use. Install the software,connect the VCR and you are converting old tapes. I converted all my old 8MM and VHS Tapes to digital files. Great Value!

Player is decent and does its job. The software is functional, however trying to find the setting for recording method (SP, EP, SLP) is buried in the Video Storage section and not in either of the two general settings where I seem to always look first.

IT was so quick and easy to set up, easier than trying to program my dvd recorder to record a program. I have copied my tapes and am now offering to copy tapes for my family. Easy, no hassle, quality of dvd produced is just fine. I would recommend to anyone who has a library of tapes they want to turn into dvds.
