i love that when applied with pressure it REALLY gets into the muscle. a bit heavy for a small woman to use, but great on rhomboid and trap muscles. yes, too intense for the neck. hope mine doesn't break! wonder what happened to the one that broke? did brookstone take it back? what did they say?

I have owned 2 other Thumper models which I thought were pretty good. 1 was a professional Thumper and too big to be handled to use on your own. But this Brookstone Performance Massager was fantastic. Easy to handle and get in all the right places. Worked the best I ever had in getting out neck, shoulder, back, hip muscles. I used it daily for 1 week and it broke on the 7th day. The massage head popped up and there is no way I can see to open the machine or put the massager back in place. 1 week of use!!!! That's horrible.

I've owned lighter weight massagers and finally realized, you've GOT to have heavy duty to get relief. This provides the perfect weight and force to sooth muscles one-handed or for another person with almost no effort. Try it! The little dept store and drug store units are trash!

This massager really focuses a good amount of pressure on tough muscle knots and general tension. I use it most days on my back. It is particularly effective in massaging my derierre. (That is important to me because I sometimes get pain in my hip and leg from muscle tension.)

The unit is really too intense to use on neck muscles. It is somewhat heavy and a bit awkward to maneuver, but still very useable on one's self. I doubt that a massager of lighter weight would pack the same punch.
