I just assembled this in lest than 5 minutes. Tried it out and it felt good on my sore back. I can see that it can work the abs if you use your stomach muscles to move it instead of your feet.

I love this item. My back pain is relieved and I feel better than I have in a long time. I wish there was another notch for I have to wear 3" wedges to be able to reach the floor when I stretch completely. I am 5 ft tall. Muscle toning is the reason this is still the item I need in my routine.

I bought this becauses I was doing research into that "other" ab machine and I liked the idea that this could do double duty for my boyfriend's back problem. We both love it. He uses it to stretch out his back at least once a day. I am a horrible exerciser, but I find I can do this while I'm watching TV and I'm trying to make it a routine. I do sets of 30, using small weights to work my arms during the rest period, and I'm up to 5 sets a day now. This is amazing, because I really was sedentary before. I feel it most in the top of my thighs and rear, and in my lower abs. I don't know if it will translate to inches off my waist, but I know the thighs and buns are getting a nice workout. Plus it is very comfortable and you can feel the support and stretch in your back. I'm very pleased with the purchase, in quality, price and ease/comfort in use. My boyfriend and I definitely recommend it!

I assembled the Back Stretcher in no time at all and started using it, immediately. What I like most about it is that it mimics one of my favorite yoga positions. Not having been in the best of shape lately, I feel encouraged to start a new routine, beginning and ending with the Back Strecher. Definately one of my better purchases.

This is great for stretching your back (5 stars for back stretching). I've had back problems for years and tried many ways to stretch, and this is by far the best stretch I've found. I removed the headrest because it was not an effective stretch for me with it on. I would have been very dissapointed if I bought this strictly for an abb workout (I would give it one star in that area only because you can't give any less). I don't see any way that this can be used to work your abbs, and I'm not sure why it's advertised that way, but it's perfect for my back pain.

Helps get out those "kinks". If you wake up with a back that just doesn't feel right, this machine is for you. Just 5-10 minutes stretching on it every morning really makes a difference. I also use it after long drives. You can hear the "pops" as you lie and tilt. Almost as good as the chiropractor. It would be nice if it could fold up, but that may be in the next version.

I've only used it a few times but it did good on stretching my lower back and abs. I suffer chronic back pain and I felt sudden release of tension in my lower back which actually made me dizzy (in a good way. I don't think it will replace my physical therapy because it does not stretch your neck. But I think it will help in the long run.

I have issues with my upper back/neck and my lower back from an auto accident and this works for both. A few minutes a day and I have less pain than I've had in years. It also allows me to work on my abs a bit with my head supported, which is a big plus, since I can't do crunches due to the neck injury. All the other reviews were right about how quickly this Back Stretcher provides relief.

Provides a comfortable stretch of my back after sitting at a desk all day. I don't notice much of an abdominal workout though. Instead it feels more like the thighs are being used to push yourself up and back.

It helps keep your spine and head in a stable position without strain while in use. I am very heavy, and it does not shift back or side to side although the handles should not be used as leverage to get up off the floor, or down onto the exerciser. Once you are seated properly, it is quite stable and quite comfortable.

THis was a gift to my boyfriend who has been having back pain. He actually recently helped some beighbors carry up a heavy table and threw his back out completetly. Has had to go to the chiroprator and uses this item for stretching and helping maintain alignment. It really just feels good and the first time you use it, you can really feel your spine into alignment. I am not sure it is that much better than an excercise ball on your back. For the stomach part, you can feel it working but they are right that there are no instructions on how this helps our abdominals. I also personally use an excercise ball for crunches and I can feel it working well. This back stretcher is definitely easy to use, friendly, and great if you have a place set aside for it so you can use it at will.

Allow yourself about 20 minutes to assemble and then have an area about 36"x 18" (footprint) to store or move out of traffic area in your home.

It feels a little hard in my center back; however, it does the job, definitely streches and relieves my back and neck area. The stretching and mild exercise to abdomen is a plus. I have an old injury in my back plus injury in my neck area and am able to use this equipment. Controlled, supports you. The most difficult part may be getting up and down on the floor to use it.

I was happy with the sturdy feeling of this. I had wanted to get an inversion table but they're big and expensive. This does the trick, stretches nicely and lets the blood rush to your head, and feels safe when you come back up. However I fail to see how it's an abdominal exercise machine? Oh well, it's a good value and I use it every day, especially after sitting at a desk. It's not compact so you can't stash it under your bed though!

I gave this product to my husband for Christmas. His back is always hurting him and he has a difficult time stretching his back. Since Christmas, he has been using it to stretch every evening for about 10 minutes and says it has really helped.

I use it to help me with crunches. It is much more comfortable on my back and neck than traditional crunches, but I still get a great ab workout.

I purchased this product as an alternative to spending money on a chiropractor. The ultimate premise was to stretch my back without causing harm by "cracking" my back unconventionally. As a word of caution - do not just do abs / back exercises. Always work other muscles too (legs, hamstrings, shoulders, etc.) and don't forget to warm up before using. When following directions, this is an easy to set up and easy to use product.

I sit at the computer a lot which causes chest tightness so I use this product to stretch the chest. It works well for this except I personally would have preferred a bigger arch. It does stretch out the spine quite nicely. It is also advertised as an Ab Trainer. It's possible that one could use the equipment for this, however the instructions that come with it are very limited and don't really explain how to work the abs.

My kids use this for abs exercise. I use it exclusively for relief from degenerative disk disease on 3 vertebrae in lower lumbar. This relieves pressure on peripheral nerves and allows me a pain free couple of hours after only 10 minutes of stretching out my spine on this simple but useful device.

The product was easy to assemble and easy to use. I have found that it doesn't really provide a workout, but does a nice job of stretching the back. I ride horses and this tool allows me to elongate the back muscles while strengthening my core muscles.

This is nice back stretcher for those who suffer from disk and back muscle issues but in no way an ab trainer. It's easy to use for stretching and relieving disk issues in the back though.

I must mention that if you are tall this may not work, because you have to scrunch yourself on the floor to sit on the seat to roll back.

Overall I do recommend this a nice back stretch.

I saw this product in the Brookstone mailouts and immediately thought about my husband's back problems. He has two bulging discs (L-4 & L-5) and now has something growing between those disc. His physician has recommended injections in his spine first, then possibly surgery. The day he started using this product, he could feel relief from its use. I'm into yoga and since I have such tight calves/hamstrings, I find it hard to also work on my (equally) tight back. Tight leg muscles make it hard to isolate the back, since I hit resistance in the legs before getting a full back stretch. This machine is wonderful- you can really feel the stretch in the back, and since you are doing it while lying down on an incline, it is a pretty passive process. You can hold onto the handles a few ways that I've figured out- one, the regular way; two, closer in to get an added shoulder stretch (a personal innovation, not designed for that, I don't think). Or, you don't have to hold onto the handles at all- oftentimes I'll read a book while lying down (you are not horizontal though, you are inclined downwards with your head almost on the ground. I can read like this and it is not hard but I guess it it up to your taste if this is something that you can do/like). But if you are like me you'll notice that after "hanging" a while on the machine, when you come up you'll feel more relaxed.A great machine. Highly recommend.[...]

If you sit all day or if your back isn't what you wish it were, this is a perfect piece of equipment to stretch and tone your back and provide some tone for your front as well. I have headaches ... regularly. I used to think that my headaches came from pinched nerves, but I never could figure out how to "stretch" out my spine. When I saw this, I knew that it was just the thing I was looking for. The very first time I had a headache after receiving it, I used the back stretcher and after getting up, my headache was gone. I have a pinched nerve in my lower back between L5 and S1 with a protruding disk. I have had epidurals, pain medications, chiropractic care, etc. I don't sleep well from the constant pain that I have. The first night I used this, I was actually able to get up off the floor by myself. I slept like a baby. The results aren't long lasting but using everyday and my back gets better and better.

I've one spot in my spine that always seems to be in a knot, and my hips cause great pain. I tried this machine and WOW. I heard/felt 4 "pops" in my back the first time, and the knot is gone. I use this after doing some cardio on the stepper. I have always worked on my abs but apparently at the expense of my lower back. Apparently your abs can get short causing strain on your back. This helps work the muscles in a more even way. Don't get the 6-pack effect but also don't get the feeling of compression. Actually feel more relaxed after use.

I really wish this product had more resistance bands - especially since my puppy got a hold of one and chewed it up. There should be additional bands offered for sale on the side, whether of the same resistance; or stepping up the program for those not so out of shape or who have already conquered the ones available. I would LOVE to see more bands made available - I would use it EVERY DAY FOR A LONG, LONG TIME.

I use it to losen my spine. It is very light and compact so it can fit into a small space. I would not recommend it to a person over 150 pounds.

I would not say that this is a challenging work-out; however, it does work your abs and is a great back stretcher. I would recommend more bands that could increase the resistance. The product works for many different size users.

I got this for my husband because he was always complaining of lower back pain. He was skeptical at first but after using it three times he told me it was really working. have had back pain for past 15 years, disc surgery about 10 years ago. Still suffer from lower back pain and would see a chiro to help realign the back. The simple device with little effort stretches out the back and leaves me feeling like I just walked out of the chiro's office. Highly recommend. Some Ab benefit but buy it for the back.

I found this product to be very functional and it does what it claims in the ad. I do feel "stretched" after using it. However, I expected more out of this the usage is boring. You would have to be very motivated to use it on a consistent basis. I would summarize this as an ordinary stretching equipment.

I bought this product as a gift for my father who has back problems. He says that he can definitely tell a difference in his flexibility since he began using it. It provides a stretch that you cannot get without having a specific stretching device. The product is very compact and easy to assemble, but I was worried that my dad wouldn't be able to use it on the floor. I used it (before I gave it to him) and I absolutely loved it! I'm thinking about getting another one for myself!

I purchased this product to help develop my abs and strengthen my back. I have a bulging disc and this seems to be helping. I would however, like it to gradually get to be more challenging. It only has one level of resistance.

This was a gift for my husband and at first it was exciting to have. One problem, my husband has a crooked back. He is not able to get his head all the way to the floor when stretching his back.

I tried new mattresses (Spring then Foam) and they did not relieve me of my lower back pain every morning upon rising from sleep. I went on medication that helped some but did not rid me of it. The first night I tried this before going to bed I woke 100% pain Free. I was shocked. I continued it for a few days and had no pain each morning. I forgot to do it one night and woke the next morning with the old pain. Now I do it in the Morning and before Bed. Goodbye Back Pain!

I would have paid thousands to fix this problem and never would have guessed this little guy would fix it for so little cost.

Great to stretch out and energize in the a.m. and p.m. before bed. Give energy and relaxation! I sit a computer often and my back & neck are hunched forward...this stretches me the opposite way and feels great! Keep breathing! I don't get the ab workout however...

This torture device has little resistance, so it's not a great workout. But it stretches your whole back. I feel like I do after i go to the chiropractor. I sit in a chair all day, so this is the best thing ever for my back. I am not sure if adding more resistance would help make this a useful workout, but I still highly recommend it. Small, light and for some reason I find it relaxing.

I can hear my back crack. I wasn't able to stand up straight before. Now I can. I do become dizzy and nauseated at times with use. You can really feel it in the back and in your abs.

I have herniated disks and degenerative disc disease, any excercise I do, I do very carefully. I found this machine to be helpful in regaining strength and toning my lower back and regaining flexibility. It is quiet too. I have no complaints. Great value. Extra bands for more resistance might be a plus. Thats it.

I had back problems and thought this would help stretch out my back. My legs weren't strong enough to get me off the ground. That's not saying that this isn't a good product it's just I have physical problems and I just wasn't able to use it.

I bought the back stretcher for my husband who has a lot of back problems. It did not work out for him and his doctor told him not to use it. So the rest of the family and myself started using it and enjoy it. I fall asleep on a too big pillow sometimes and it is a great way to get the kinks out!! Good for what ails your back.

This product is best used at least every other day for maximum benefit. I recommend 30 repetitions both in the morning and before going to bed (3 sets of 10 repetitions with a brief pause between the three sets). You may not notice a significant relief in back pain or more flexible back muscles until using it about 3 days, but you will still feel some degree of relief immediately upon using the stretcher. It is great after a long drive. My girlfriend loves using it after she drives 4 hours to see me and her back is killing her from the drive. Even my roommate asks me to use it when his back hurts. With the adjustable headrest, it works great for both my girlfriend who is 5'1" and for me who is 6'2". After about a week of using this stretcher, I noticed my abs were beginning to tighten up as well. This machine does not take up too much space, but it cannot be stored under a bed even if it was slightly disassembled. Overall, this simple product serves its purpose (to stretch your back) and it quite effective.

I always felt great when Physical Therapy would stick me in traction but had no way to duplicate that experience at home -- until now. This device allows me to stretch out my back and decompress my spine. I have chronic swelling in one ankle due to something being pinched in my spinal area causing lymph fluid to not be able to pump back up. After a good stretch, I release whatever is hanging me up in my spinal area and my ankle is back to normal.
