When I pushed the button on the handle the FIRST time I used the umbrella, the top of the umbrella shot off and the spring broke. I was extremely disappointed and expected better quality in the construction of a Brookstone product.

I bought this umbrella model about 2 years ago but lost it. I then purchased a replacement about 2 months ago and it is not the same quality with many metal parts now made of plastic. It no longer holds up to wind like the original model. Any sort of wind and this model just bends out of shape. And the spines that are now plastic have become unglued in many places requiring me to super glue them back in place. Now after 2 month of use this umbrella is completely unuseable. It's litterally fallen apart. What a shame. The original I bought 2 years ago withstood all types of rain storms and was still going strong until I lost it.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
The size is large and provides sufficient coverage for 2 average size people. I like its ability to auto open and close. However this feature is also its greatest downfall. i have purchased this umbrella 2x in the past 2 years. BOTH times it broke during the closing process. The spokes simply snap over time.

I bought this umbrella feeling like I was getting one of the best on the market. The reviews were mostly good and I thought given the price, it has to be better than a lot of the discount umbreallas.

The umbrella does give a great coverage area. It's one of the larger umbrellas available and collapses down to a very manageable size. It's not the thinnest on the market but it can be fit into a briefcase or backpack easily.

Very quickly I was disappointed in the umbrella's ability to withstand windgusts. I was walking downtown and was caught in a downpour. I popped open my new purchase. Within seconds the wind had flipped the umbrella inside out. I'm trying to stay dry and get it straightened and found myself trying to hold it directly into the wind so the wind can't get underneath the canopy again. It was a mess. On a cheap umbrella I would have expected that but given what I spent on this, I expected more. The wind was an issue with this umbrella probably half the time I used it.

Within a few of months the open/close button started failing. It went from having to push the button a time or two for it to engage to having to physically pull the umbrella out to open the canopy and using the nearest wall or pole to push it closed.

Today I was walking into the airport from the parking garage. Two sets of four lanes of traffic have to be crossed and it was pouring. I took out my umbrella which did a good job of keeping me dry but as I tried to collapse it to enter the airport, I couldn't get it closed. I fought with it for 5 minutes trying to get it to close when the handle snapped off. Even after that the canopy was still stuck in the open position! I tried stuffing it in the garbage can and finally left it there beside the garbage.

I'll try the ShedRain WindPro next, hopefully with better results.

I was looking for something that withstands wind and suitable for 2 people. The coverage is great. It is made very well. Deals with wind well. However, I originally purchased it for London. The wind there is ferocious, and it did not rain during the trip, so I cannot say for sure if it can withstand London storms.

I have used this umbrella for several months. I have had several Issues:

*Within the first week I bent one of the arms just folding the umbrella up.
*The auto close stopped working within a month.
*The last thing happened to me two days ago. There was a small wind gust (10-15MPH) it inverted the umbrella and it broke the handle right off in my hand.

A small note that in Chicago between the buildings the wind tends to change direction a lot. With that said, I would not recommend this umbrella.

I love this umbrella. I'ma very selfish designer and I HATE getting wet. This umbrella is just the best. I have 3 of them. One in my bag. One in my car and one in the house. I've had them borrowed a few times and it was very difficult to get them back. People just love it. it's perfect to get in the car and the case is very absorbent so you don't go wetting all around the floor. the only problem is that I use them so much that they get worn out quite quickly. I often buy one every year. Oh and it's so good that it like lose-proof.

I owned this umbrella for about 3 years. I have to walk about 1.5 miles to the bus stop and then catch a train, with a wait on an exposed platform. While others are scurrying indoors to wait, I stand out in the open and stay nice and dry. After 3 years though, all of the struts started rusting and one broke. Even broken I used it for the rest of the winter season. I am hoping for another for Christmas! I love it!

I love Brookstone umbrellas but they do break fairly easily. Wish they could fix this problem as I know other people must have brought theirs back for repairs or complain about the fragility of the mechanism. Still, I will continue to buy it because it really does a good job as long as it lasts. Shortest life of a new one was a week. Longest was about 3 months, so far....

I've had three of these. Lost the first two. The third just broke - umbrella simply won't close. It has probably been more than a year so won't be covered by warranty. Bottom line - good umbrella if you usually lose umbrellas within a year. Otherwise, there are probably more durable umbrellas around.

I've had this umbrella for about a year and it works great for me. I like the compact size it folds down to and the nice large size when opened.

The hook on the holster makes it nice & portable and it has lasted great. Mind you I live in California so torrential rains aren't a concern but I love my umbrella and think it was a smart investment.

Easily the most poorly made umbrella I've had. In the 15 minutes it takes to walk from my office to the train station, this umbrella blew inside out 4 times in a light breeze & rain. The fourth time, it fell apart. The umbrella canopy was floppy, not rigid, and deformed shape into unuseability even when not turning inside out. The entire construction seemed flimsy...lots of rattling and movement where there shouldn't be any. Definitely look elsewhere for an umbrella.

Good points: yeah, it's big.
