It works pretty good and has very good image resolution. THis only problem I have is that the pictures do not appear in the correct order. I don't know what the album software is using to decide what order to show them in, however, it doesn't match the order what Windows Explorer or even The PIcture Sizer software. This holds FOUR THOUSAND photos. So, even if you evenly divided them amongst all 4 albums, that 1,000 per album. When you start going through an album- if you shut the device off, when you next go back to it, it starts again at the first slide in the album! It does not remember where you left off looking! So, if you were looking at the 200th photo and expected to start looking at photo 201 in that album, you have to click forward through all 200 slides you looked at to get to the next one, and then start the slide show. BAD! This might be acceptable for a device that holds 50-100 photos- but not 4,000. They need to provide a firmware update NOW that will let you start viewing exactly where you left off in each of the 4 albums on the device. Some users have individual, computer related problems with the software (out of memory errors, etc.) Issues I have with it are- if you have folders of photos on your harddrive, and if some folders have photos have names with first few characters the same as in other folders, the software doesnt see them as different photos- so if you are trying to load them into the saem ablbum, it says it already exists (it doesnt- the software renames long photo filenames by some convention it uses.) Also, i wish there was a stop or cancel button to stop it from autoloading into preview photos from any folder yuo click on on your harddrive. sometimes you might have a subdirectory you wanted, and you have to wait for it to load all the photos into preview before you can click on a subdirectory. It chokes big time trying to load preview thumbnails from my computer photo folder. It only loads about twenty or thirty files into the preview window before it claims to be out of memory, and then I have to wait five seconds and hit OK as it tries and fails to load every other photo in the folder. And these are just 2-3MB files. So in the end it takes like 10 more minutes just to get where I can start selecting files to upload, plus I can't even access half of my photo folder to upload. I previously used a cheap plastic keychain photo display from Walgreens, whose software handles this just fine and it also gives you editing functions for cropping and rotating your photos to fit the display better. Something the Brookstone lacks. My mom is techno-phobic, but she loves being able to share pictures of her 13 grandchildren. I loaded this frame before giving to her and I found the four albums perfect for us. I created 1. Birthdays 2. Vacations 3. Grandkids and left the 4th one for her to have just a few really special pictures, so if she only has a few minutes to share she goes to this 4th album. The photo resizer software was easy to install and simple to use. I installed it on mom's home computer and she was even able to add new images (she was so proud). One note, keep in mind to turn on the frame you need to press and HOLD the power button. I thought mine was broken because I just kept hitting the power button, not holding it down. Very frustrated I asked my husband to try and he suggested holding the button down and bingo, it worked. The leather cover is simple, but classy (I got the red). The image size is really nice. Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone looking to have a portable digital picture frame. Great for picture lovers! He uses it as a digital portfolio for his artwork. It's easier than carrying slide or the artworks. Having a portable digital photo album makes it more convenient. CON: The reason why I rated it a 3 is because it took my bf a while to load the portable digital photo album. It was pretty hard to load. It was hard to select photos for it to resize. I believe it took him a good 3.5 hours to figure out how to use it with our Mac laptops. Then when the photos are finally uploaded the resized photos are not as crisp. They came out pixelated. Not only that the order he wanted the images to be in were all wrong. There has to be an easier way to load this thing. All in all my bf likes his gift. This only happened when I tried to plug it in the second time to add more photos. I returned it with no problem. I uninstalled the old "photo Resizer" software and installed from the new disc. It connected. I then loaded 80 pictures using the resizer and when I went to view them they all said "photo error".. every single one...OK I'll plug it in delete the files and do it again....it would Not get recognized... Enough is enough... It is going back for a refund...Not a product worth the time of day. No matter how orderly I name the pictures in the album they are displayed using the original names of the photographs so they come out in groups of sequential order rather than the whole event. I tried editing every single picture since all edited photos are at the back. Unfortunately, they, too, were grouped depending on when I edited them! I have erased and reloaded albums about 5 times. In the last attempt it created a double-exposure. I erased the album and resized it all again and that double-exposure was still there. Great Gift! It's a compact way to carry photos from vacations, recitals, etc. for easy display. One problem I have is that you can't just find a picture easily. If you're looking for a certain photo, you have to let the slide show go through all the photos just to find one you're looking for. It would have been great to have the ability to scroll through the pictures to find the one you want. It also would be great to have the ability to time the slide show for either shorter or longer viewing times. Lastly, since I like to take mine along in my purse, the flap that is attached often flips open, exposing the screen to everything in my purse, so scratches are unavoidable.
