It does not keep your coffee warm. On high I can touch the plate and it not that hot. I had a Mr. Coffee warmer and was expecting much a better product from Brookstone. The Mr. Coffee warm is over half the price and it work. This warmer is pretty but is not not do the job. I do not know what produce the others were reviewing.

Great product for the price. I use it everyday on my office desk. It gets very hot, and left a burn mark on my office desk. I have to put a heat cover protector, underneath it. I use 16 oz coffee mugs. This warmer will not safely hold a mug of that size. You must use a 12 oz mug, or smaller. Other than, a few cons. It is a great for the office desk.

I'm a "sipper"--it takes me 2-3 hours to finish a cup of coffee. I've used mug warmers for 10 years. This one looks great, and I love the bright blue light when it's on--I haven't forgotten to turn it off as I have sometimes done in the past. However, it just doesn't keep my coffee warm enough. I'm truly disappointed in its performance and would not purchase another, nor would I recommend it to others.

The base of a coffee cup is not completely flat; there is a ridge which is the only part that makes contact with the hot plate surface - not enough surface area gets heated to keep beverages warm (forget hot). Design flaw.

I never drink my coffee or tea fast enough to keep it from getting cold! So having this in the office is perfect for me, I don't have to guzzle my morning beverages. If you like your drink piping hot than this might not be for you, but on "high" setting it keeps my drinks nice and warm. (Low setting gets you luke warm...)

This is great! I have tried several other warmers out there and none of them worked. Before I bought this one, one of the reviews said it kept the coffee almost too hot; and that is why I bought it. It is great. I use a large mug, and put the warmer on high; when it gets about 1/2 empty, I switch it to low (or it will be too hot!). I can't say enough about this..it is wonderful!

I bought this gift for my boyfriend who loves tea.
He must drink at leat 4 cups a day.
Alot of the times he will get busy and his tea will turn cold and he hates the taste of microwaved water, and its way too much of a hassle to make a new cup.
So vala! I found this nifty gift online and he loves it.
The only bad thing about this product is that we are both fans of huge coffee/tea cups (think the cafe cups in the t.v. shop friends) Our very large cups didnt fit and overlapped the heating part of this product.
But The average mug does fit and thats good enough.

One must wonder why they would build this so well, but fail in its essential function. The high setting keeps coffee or tea barely tepid, which is to say lukewarm.

The low setting is useless.

I actually purchased four of these warmers. I gave two to my husband and kept two for my use. We use one of our warmers at our desks at home and the second at our desks at work. They work great! I had an old (and cheap) one that worked well but started to rust. I was surprised to learn that my new brookstone version did not keep the coffee warm at all. Assuming that I got a bad one, we returned it for a new one and had the same experience. Two hours later, the coffee is room temp at best. Back to the cheap one!

Does the job very well. I would recommend using a wide and flat bottom cup that fills the base as much as possible so that the heat is evenly spread! There is a "smoky" smell in the beginning, but it disappears after a few uses.

This warmer is perfect for keeping coffee/tea hot or warm. Thanks to the 2 settings you can control how hot you want it. And that does make a difference because I drink both tea & coffee. I prefer to keep tea warm & coffee hot. The aluminum base not only looks good but adds some heft to the warmer so it doesn't move around my shiny glass desktop. This warmer performs as promised. The high setting will definitely keep your coffee/tea/water nice and hot, but not to the point where it'll burn you. The low setting does keep the drink warm, but not as warm as tea should be. It'd be best if this product had an auto-shut-off, so I don't have to worry about accidentally leaving it on after I leave the office. The surface for the cup and the surrounding metal-finish surface both get very hot--possibly hot enough to eventually set papers on fire if I'm not careful to remember to turn off the warmer AND keep my documents clear of it.

I just received my warmer yesterday and used it for the first time at work this morning. I was really looking forward to it keeping my coffee nice and hot but I was disappointed. It really only kept it lukewarm and that was with the high setting. And I had a flat bottomed cup which should increase the surface area to be heated. If this warmer kept my coffee hot, then it would have been worth the money I paid for it but since it only keeps my coffee lukewarm, it is way overpriced for that.

Also, there is a smell of burning plastic when the unit is turned on. I can't explain it because I used a regular ceramic coffee cup. But I've only used this one time. Perhaps with additional use, the smell will disappear.

My daughter gave me my Brookstone mug warmer two years ago. But now that I am looking after an ailing husband, my coffee can sit for hours before I can get back to it.
I love good coffee, and drink only two or three cups a day, so enjoying it is a great comfort to me, especially now when my days are stressed with worry.

This warmer keeps my coffee just the right temperature, without destroying its flavour.
To be sure the hot plate is safe on my desk, I have it sitting like a snug lid on a mottled green pottery piece my granddaughter made for me.
A Brookstone mug warmer would be an ideal gift for a new mother.

I've owned a lot of mug warmers, usually cheap (in cost and quality), but this is by far the nicest... sleek, modern design, and two temperature settings. My husband and I work from a home office, and use the warmers daily. With winter, it's especially nice to put the warmer on Low to keep our cups warm between fillings. We thought we would miss an auto-off feature, but now we remember how annoying it was. If this is like other Brookstone products, it will last and last... it's well worth the cost!

I owned this product 20 yrs ago and used it constantly. It finally wore out and when it came time to replace it, I went with cheaper off brands and they never matched up with the quality of Brookstone's. The beverage never seemed to stay warm with the generic versions. I found this online and bought it the moment I saw it since we don't have Brookstone in my city. Wish we did.

I get to work at 8:30am and the first thing I do is switch this puppy on high and grab a cup of tea. It stays on all day (until 5pm) and keeps cup after cup of tea at just the right temperature. I've used the warmer like this (weekends aside) every day for over a year with no complaints. I've never had a problem with odor or beverage cool-down. When this one dies, you can be sure I'll be running to the nearest Brookstone to buy another one!!

Decided to try this product, even after reading the mixed reviews.It actually works pretty well, and does keep me from having to run to the micro to continually warm up my tea/coffee. I was using SS travel mugs for my coffee since they keep things hot much longer, but I have to hand-wash those and it's kind of a pain. This little warmer makes it nice to be able to use a dishwasher-safe mug when I want. At [$]it's a nice little gift - bought one for the boss (yeah, nothing's too good for MY boss!)Pros: Keeps your beverage pretty hot; attractive design looks nice on the desktop.Cons: As others have noted, it does have a strong, burning-plastic smell on the "high" setting. This seems to have faded over time and is now only faintly noticeable. I imagine that maybe after a few more hours of use, it will disappear altogether.

However, speed of heating depends on height of lip around bottom of mug, as only the lip touches the heating surface directly. The larger the bottom of the coffee mug and the shorter the lip on the bottom of the mug, the faster the mug heats.

Okay, I received a warmer for Christmas, because I have been buying 20 oz lidded cups for my coffee to try and keep it warm, my daughter thought it was a great idea. Actually it was.I work at home, my coffee is always cold. However, I was disappointed in the competitor's, as it only kept my coffee just off of cold. I tried different size cups, different styles, etc. My cat used it as a foot warmer. I saw Brookstone's warmer and took a chance. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. It definitely keeps the coffee warm, piping hot, it does not, but natually there is the potential for a fire hazard there. Obviously the larger the cup, the less effective it is at keeping it warm. The more surface area touching the plate helps a great deal. I have also had 'half of cups' of cold coffee on my desk that I have warmed up without a problem. I realize this is not its intended use.When I work I have two cups of coffee with me, since I prefer 20 oz over 12. One is on the warmer and one I drink (or it gets cold and I grab the other). It has alittle trouble with the 12 oz of coffee, but it is still drinkably warm. My cat, a resident of my desk, however, does not like it, as it is uncomfortably warm for her feet.The only con I have found with it, well there are two: I drink more coffee because the coffee is actually 'warm'! Somebody mentioned the smell. I would not use anything but ceramic type mugs on it. Also, I would really clean it before the initial use, as I did have a pecular smell the first day. My other one said to clean it before use, so I cleaned this one and have never noticed any smell from it.[...]

Now, instead of having to warm up her coffee by adding more, she can just use the handy coffee desk warmer. 2 critical variables... 1) How much coffee is in your cup for the device to warm? 2) How thick is your cup. This will GREATLY affect the ultimate temperature of your beverage.My Test Environment: I used a normal ceramic type coffee cup filled up to about 1/2 inch from the rim with black coffee.Opinion: The design of this item is perfect. Very attractive. I appreciate this, but didn't but it for looks. I wanted hot coffee, above all. That said... It keeps the coffee warm, NOT HOT. The warmer is too hot to touch with your finger. The only reason I say this is b/c some are not even hot when you touch them. It keeps the coffee warm, but nowhere near as hot as it is when it comes out of the pot off the brewer (which has a pot sized warmer). Unfortunately, you must pour another cup of coffee to get back to that original temp. The warmer is nowhere close to making coffe "hot." It may slow down the cooling process, but absolutely does not keep the coffee "hot." Great looks. Doesn't do the job I bought it for. While I think the design of the warmer is very nice, I was extremely put off by the smell this device emits while turned on. I am somewhat sensitive to odors, I admit, but this particular smell made me feel ill and lightheaded after a while. This is one of the better desktop beverage warmers I've seen, but it has two primary flaws: first, the cord is fairly short; and second, it doesn't get all that hot. In other words, it does the job, but barely.

This product is ideal for mugs and keeps the contents of the mug warm. However, if you use a use cup whose bottom consists of just a circular rim (i.e. - Starbucks cup) instead of a flat bottom all the way across, the Beverage Warmer does not warm as well. Also, when the Beverage Warmer is turned on low it gives you a mild burnt-plastic smelling odor (and yes, it smelled this way before I ever placed a plastic cup on it) and when it is turned on high, the odor smells worse. Over time however, the odor has lessened, but is still faintly noticeable. I have had the warmer for about two months. I am guessing the material that the heating plate is made of is what is getting burnt up and giving off the bad odor. Perhaps I am the only one with the bad-odor issue, but I welcome other reviewers feedback on this issue.

In conclusion, the product is ideal if you have a dedicated flat-bottomed, mug at work or home, into which you can pour your Starbucks or "home" brewed coffee.
