Have purchased two of these as gifts-- and as the gifts were for family members-- have seen them in action. Father in law marinated steaks for a 1/2 hr and they came out flavorful and tender. Finally buying one for myself as well! Only word of caution--do not over pump, or have heard there is risk of implosion (it is a vacuum seal). Looking forward to seeing how it performs with chicken and veggies.

The instructions weren't very detailed so I'm not even sure that I'm using this thing right. The first batch of meat I made using the marinater tasted very good. But by the time I got down to the last batch, it had already been marinating for a 1/2 hour so who knows if it was with the help of the instant marinater. I'll have to test it out more.

The vacuum seal works great. It's hard to open after using it since it has to seal so tightly. It seemed to really get the flavors into the meat much faster than just marinating.

This really saves time marinating! I have used it on steaks and chicken. The meat has good flavor throughout and seems more tender than usual.

Only con I can think of - I usually marinate in large ziploc bags, so I can throw the whole mess away as I pull out the chicken pieces. With this, I have to dispose of the marinade down the drain and make sure I don't have any bits of chicken skin, etc. go down. Then I have to make sure the dishwasher doesn't sit too long with raw meat smell in it. Overall, not a big problem, but changes the way I do things.

My boyfriend always decides at the last minute that he wants to BBQ...so i thought what a perfect Christmas present for him! It works great! I also got him a marinade recipe book as well and we throw the meat and the marinade in the instant marinater, pump all the air out, and give it 15-30 minutes (sometimes more if hes planned a little more ahead of time) to soak in the marinade and then grill it up! It tastes great! You can really taste the marinade in the meat. Even the people at my office have bought them for friends and family of their own for Christmas after i raved about it. I would recommend to anyone who likes to plan BBQ's at the very last minute!

We always wait til the last minute to decide on dinner and with this, we can still marinate and get all the soaked in flavor as if we had started the night before. I had trouble getting the seal to start. Although I did not have a lot of food in it there was one piece was too high in the middle (no even touching the top cover) and when I moved it I was able to start the suction process.

Returned unit after using twice. I tried marinating small chicken wings and pork chops. The outcome was no different than using a ziploc bag. The unit itself is nicely built but I couldn't justify the space it took up for the job it did.

The lack of instructions is rough--pictures, no words. It doesn't tell me if I need to use as much marinade as usual or less due to the vacuum. It doesn't tell me how many times to pump. (6-8 is TOO Many!) We couldn't get it open. The release valve didn't work. The bottle opener didn't work. I was finally able to release the seal by using a metal kabob skewer to stretch one of the air holes to let air in. (Hope that helps anyone who had the same problems as us.) With detailed instructions this would be a great product.

Having used their wine system, this product takes a bit more getting used to. Once you get the hang of it, it is very simple and easy to use. Produces good results in a short period of time. This design is MUCH improved over the previous version that was taken off the market a couple of years ago. Previous model could not withstand the pressure of air removal and would break. Marinates in a minimal amount of time (just enough time to prepare the other ingredients of your dish) and food prepared is juicy and flavorful. Easy to clean and store. Only issues are the size, which is too large for a dinner for two, and the vacuum device, which you have to apply pressure to the lid to remove the air properly.

In general, a great well...instant marinater. It really does a good job with steaks (45 minutes with 4 steaks and had a tasty mustard marinated crusted steak). The next thing I will try is Korean ribs though as that will be the true test. All in all very happy with the product and easy to use!

It is only in the middle of February.

1-the pump part handle comes off while pumping the air out.
2-the other one,doesn't seem to work already. You cannot get all of the air out inorder for the marinater to work correctly. Not sure if it is the pump or the seal.

I love the idea and think that for $40.00 that they would have worked longer than just a couple of months.

We have found this product to be a great tool for faster meals. You can marinate in as less as 10 minutes or leave overnight for great flavor and tender meat. The great bonus to this product is it allows you to use many cuts of meat, we have found if you leave meats in the marinater overnight it does a wonderful job of tenderizing the meat much more than other methods. This is great for barbeque as well.

The system operates well as does this company's Vin Vac. I'm not sure however it does any better than adding tenderizer to a steak, roast or chicken breast. I have not tried using it on more complex marinating recipes.

Questionable quality construction. Works well if it lasts you long enough. Bought it in early December, 2007, imploded on December 30, 2007. I am buying another on December 30, because I was pleased with the results so far but this time will be careful with the pumping so as not to cause another implosion. I don't get home from work until 5:30, and we love the flavor of marinated meat, fish, vegetables, so with the marinator I am able to have it marinated within 1/2/hr.

OK, this product does a noteworthy job for what it is supposed to do: create a vacuum through which the marination process is accelerated. You can actually get a decent marinade in the five minutes cited in the product profile, so I'll give the product credit for that.

The included recipe guide doesn't immediately strike me as too interesting altough it does look like a nice tutorial for those not fully seasoned (pun intended) in the art of BBQ grilling. I think it's referred to as "Grilling for Girls" or something like that, but really, it's fine for everyone.

The material is actually pretty good quality, too. Everything's plastic or rubber and is actually a step up from what you'd (fearfully) expect.

The capacity is also noteworthy: there's plenty of room for meats to serve up to six or eight. I simply made a few steaks the first time out, and they looked pretty lonely. Another tip: try putting a bit of your marinade on the bottom of the dish before placing your meat--this will help saturate both desides of your main course.

You do pay for what you get, though. What I mean is that the product isn't cheap in terms of cost, either. So, I wouldn't call it high value although it may be higher quality.
