This is one of the best gifts I've ever been given. I use it constantly, and I like that I can add to the list throughout the week as I run out of something. I also like that it categorizes the foods when you print so that you know which aisles you need to go down in the store. I read that some people thought the ink ran out quickly, but they probably didn't read the manual because faded ink usually just means you need to switch out the batteries. I've had mine for a year and still have not had to change the ink. Great product!

My husband got me this as a gift and I thought it would be really neat. But the printer door has already broken off and it doesn't hold much paper. The ink has already gone out on it too and I have only gone through one roll of paper. The voice recognition hardly works. I also do not like that the screen is green and black much like the old school gameboy. Its a little bulky but sticks good to the fridge for convenience. One good thing is if there is not an item listed you can add it with voice recognition (if you can get it to work) and that it categorizes your list like produce, meat, breads, etc... This is a great idea but it needs some improvements.

This is one of the best things I have ever bought. I have MS so it is difficult for me to write. Besides, who always has a pen & paper when you run out of something? There is only two things I'd change. The first is more regional procucts such as guacamole & jalapenos, so you don't have to add them. The second is make it easier to find the different ingredients on the machine so you can change the prounciation. These are minor problems in this wonderful product. In fact, I have bought three more for gifts & plan to buy a second for myself for my discount club list.

Having no arms or hands with which to hold a pen, this product would seem ideal. I like the color. However, it is hard to rip out the paper with my teeth. I wish the paper would be easier to tear. Also, it does not recognize different kinds of cheeses. For instance, if you say "parmesan" or "gorgonzola" it will only come up with "Velveeta." Also, there needs to be some sort of security feature so my kids can't speak into it and waste the receipt.

I bought this for my wife who does all the cooking and most of the shopping. It is so easy to continually add items to your next grocery list as you run out of items through the week. As you discover something you need simply walk over to your SmartShopper, press the button and say what you need. Most items are easily recognized and added trouble free. My wife loves it and has several friends interested in getting one, but there is one thing she thinks could be improved. When you ask for something that isn't in it's database, you have to add the new item. This is cumbersome. Overall we both love this product.

This product is one of the few that actually works as advertised. I bought this as a gift for my wife. She is HARD to get a gift for. But she is such an organized shopper I thought she might like this gadget. After only a short intro to the Smart Shopper we were using it like pro's. We love the fact you can add your own stuff in the library and it uses an excellent speech recognition program to spell you custom entries so you can add all the stuff you want easily. It even has an "errands" funtion so you can remember (or remind the person shopping for you) to "go to the bank" and the like.

The best part to me is the magnet that holds this thing to the fridge. I expected it would be rather weak and useless but when I put it up to the fridge it practically lept from my hand onto the fridge door and holds like crazy! It has no problem staying where you put it. The printer is functioning well as promised. Overall we love this product and it is worth the expense. Whenever I am cooking and see that I am out or low on something I can just press the record button and enter it into our shopping list so we never forget things anymore. It even has two lists in it's memory so we use the second one to remember to buy things my aging mother needs and can't get on her own any more.

I love this product! It has a heavy duty magnet and sticks on the fridge without moving. Best of all, it really works. Press record and say your item. It adds it to your list in alphabetical order, then when you go shopping it prints the items in categories. You can have two lists going at once. You can even add errands. Occasionally it doesn't recognize what I say, but for the most part I have no problems. You can also add items that may not be in it's memory. This item is easy to use and makes shopping faster. I don't wander back and forth through the store because I forgot something.

I got this as a Christmas present from my husband. It's great when it recognizes what you say and the list is organized which helps at the store. My frustration is with adding items. You have to press hard and then it skips around on it's own. You have to scroll thru too much to get to the bottom to hit "Finish, bsksps, etc. I've almost thrown it a couple of times. After reading other reviews, I'll look at the book that came with it and maybe that will help with finding specific items.

This was a gift for my whole family from me because I was sick of coming home from shopping and finding empty juice or milk containers in my fridge! I thought if I could make it fun, they might actually put it on the list. We have had A LOT of fun with this as a family. It doesn't always recognize what you say on the first try but that is part of the fun -- we say it in different ways and with different accents. I really like that it prints your list in categories that are basically what you would find in a grocery store and I love that it records your errands as well. I would recommend!

When I saw this in the catalog I was skeptical. I didn't trust the voice recognition to work as advertised. My wife's car has voice recognition and she likes it so she convinced me to give this a try. It works great! Not only does it recognize our Alabama drawl (okay, we aren't THAT bad), but it allows us to enter southern delicacies that weren't in the original database. (I love Hoppin' John!) My wife's only complaint was that it didn't recognize Mountain Dew! Can you imagine that? It was easy enough to add, though, so all is well. Love it!

This product is handy and helpful. The back is magnetic, so it sticks to the fridge to replace the memo pad I used for my handwritten list. Best features: It groups items entered by category upon printing. Also, you can add new items to its library or change their named item to something you are more familiar with. Features to Improve: The voice recognition doesn't work every time. After saying the item you want on your list, it doesn't always show the correct item. Even though you can choose an item to improve, the voice recognition may still glitch. But overall a great product.

It's really a great idea because you always know where your list is. It's difficult when it doesn't understand what you are saying and it takes time to load in custom items. It's also time consuming to delete a particular item from an existing list.

Bought the product because when it came time for my wife to go shopping, she would ask what we needed and no one could think of anything. Naturally, by the next day everyone would remember "we are out of this." The product is very easy to use and the voice recognition is quite good. Everybody likes to talk to the little box on the frig (it connects quite sturdily using magnets), and we reduce our number of trips to the grocery store. The list is extensive and easy to add custom words. Only bad part is if you pull off the paper list down, the containor opens and the roll of paper drops out--if you pull up it's fine. First time I tried to replace the paper one of the plastic container hooks cracked and dropped off. The paper dispenser still works fine but I would expect it to be a little less delicate. I bought it as a fun gimmick gift for my wife, but it turned out to be a useful and practical device.

I use it to organize my grocery lists. I do like the way it groups items into categories. When you first use it, you need to rely on the book for the product names in the database. Typing in the names of your own specific items can be cumbersome. It would be easier to use, if there was software so you could update the database on your computer.

Mostly for grocery lists, but my husband uses it to keep a list of what he needs for his hunting trips, and I also use it for a list of items I need to take camping.

What is so great is that I haven't forgotten anything at the store since I've been using the organizer.

Haven't found anything bad with the unit. Recommended it to my sister and she has bought 4 of them as gifts.

This product is a real convenience, and fun to use. Magnetized backing sticks to the refrigerator, so it's right there when I see that I'm running out of (or low on) an item. The pre-programmed library of grocery store items is huge, but you can add items that aren't in the library. I like the way it categorizes items (and it gets most of them right), so that when I print out a list everything is organized along where I'm going to find the items in the grocery store aisles. (It also has the option to change categories, if you prefer to organize items differently.) It's easy to use, but you sometimes do need to be careful with how you pronounce an item or it may not recognize the item (it does have a function to allow you to improve voice recognition when repeated attempts to say an item go unrecognized). I would prefer a different type of print-out (the list comes out on paper the width of a gas station self-service receipt), but I guess this is the only option, considering the size of the Grocery List Assistant.

The magnet holds it to the outside of the refrigerator. When I think of something that I need, I just push the button and say what it is and it pops right into my list. The only negative is that I found it rather cumbersome to add in my own product. There is a whole book full of things all ready in there, but occasionally something comes up that is not in the book. I just found it a little fiddley. Otherwise thumbs up to this product.

This is a fantastic way to make a shopping list. All you have to do is speak into the mic and it lists what you want. When you are ready to go to the store, you can print out the list and it is all categorized eg. dairy, meats, fruit, veggies, etc. It does take some use before you get things down pat with it but once you know how to use it, it's great!

I liked this product...very convenient for a usual "list" person. I like how it organizes the foods by grocery store sections (produce, condiments, etc.) Only cons are that you have to figure out how it has the the names of products stored and sometimes refer to the booklet, the batteries go low quickly so it's handy to have a battery recharger or you'll go through them like crazy. Also, it doesn't always recognize what you are saying immediately but I have a heavy accent so that could be the problem.

My husband bought this product for me last year for Christmas and I absolutely love it. We used to have such a problem keeping up with shopping lists and wound up forgetting at least one item every trip. by having this, we are able to add an item as soon as we run out. the unit is magnetized, so it stays firmly on our fridge door, this way everyone knows where the list is, and nothing is forgotten. it even organizes the items by where they are located in the store, so no need to circle back for something you missed while going down the list.

the other thing I really enjoy is that you can add things to the library if it is not part of the pre-programmed list. for example, cascade is not in there, so you have to say 'dishwashing liquid' instead. if this annoys you, you can program in 'cascade'.

i will say that it takes a little bit for the voice recognition to get used to your individual way of saying things, but that is not an issue as long as you are patient with it. the funny thing is that it can get especially accustomed to the voice of whoever uses it the most, so sometimes when my husband says something, it might not register, but then i come up right after him and say the same thing, it picks it right up. so again, you may have to be patient.

I love it so much that this year we bought it for my parents. they absolutely love it. my younger brother, who still lives with them, spent the first night they owned it searching every cabinet looking for things to add to the list. they had a major problem of winding up with up to three or four grocery lists, now everyone knows where the list is, and what is or isn't on it :)

I would recommend this for anyone. you can even enter errands, such as 'bank' or drugstore' to the list. the new unit also has a function to create two lists.

This Smartshoper is awesome and so helpful in getting a list together quickly. Just key in what you need at the time of your need, then a few days later off to the store with the list of everything you found you needed during the week. Save so much time and works great. This has helped tremendously to keep little notes off the counter. Even if you have an errand to do, the Smartshopper will accept it and list it under "errands". If you want to add an item that is not in the database you can do that pretty easily in the library management section. I found it quite fun to enter illusive items such as "better job". The only problem was that I wasn't quite sure what category to put those things under. :-)

The ease of having any family member just speak into it to add an item is invaluable. Everything everybody needs, or notices that we are out of, just gets entered on the fly. This brings me to voice recognition. It isn't perfect, but will usually come through if you change your voice inflection. I've tried a southern accent in desperation and it does work.

One more thing that I bet only a few people have noticed is that it has a timer! You'll find it in the menu way at the bottom. It's ring is very short, but if you need that extra timer with 3 pots on the stove and are paying attention, it IS helpful to have that feature.

I have bought 3 of these so far, 1 for my mother and 1 for my son and his family and we all love ours. The only problem I have found is that if you have a really bad accent (northern, southern, etc)it has a hard time recognizing your voice so you really need to annunciate, it also helps to turn the microphone and speaker up. Adding to the library also helps as you do this in your own voice. It makes it so simple, when ever you run out of something, instead of trying to find "the list" it's right there and you just tell it what you need or tell it what errand you need to run like pick up a prescription. I can't say enough good things about this thing. I have had mine for a year now and still have the first roll of paper on it and have accidentally printed it out several times and the fact that it doesn't use ink is a REAL plus! Thanks for this one. I love it!

I thought this product would be fantastic for my vacation home. We have guests visiting the home without us often so they can easily leave us notes of what to stock up on or things needed to be done around the house.

This product was very difficult to use, time consuming to program and did not recognize even it's basic voice commands programmed by the manufacturer. I was surprised and disappointed.

If this product is revised and made easy to use, I would consider purchasing again in the future but at this time I was disappointed with it.

This product is extremely useful and is even fun to use. No more hunting for pen and paper to write down grocery items. I put the categories in order of the store so when the list prints out it's all in order. I love that you can enter your own items but I've found that if you go too fast or if there is background noise, it loses its mind (keeps beeping and the cursor randomly moves around) and I have to take out a battery and start over.

Love it! It cut my shopping trip in half at least because it organizes for you by aisle. I didn't have to scan and rescan my list or back track because I missed something when I was in an area.
If you have noisy kids, you might have to repeat yourself a few times, but you should be used to that. lol

I like being able to customize my list by brands and specific items. Exp. Baby food but I can customize to a paticular flavor or dish. As I use the last of an item, I add it to the growing list for the next shop. Another nice thing you can do is walk around the house and check for what you may be running low on. Check the laundryroom for those products or bathrooms for toiletries and etc. Since it will also allow for errands I can be specific to a particular store that I shop. Also, because I feed indoor animals and outdoor, I can build my library with items for their needs exp. Lava Chews for my chinchillas. I bought one for myself and have bought 2 as gifts.
