Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I stumbled across this while doing Christmas shopping, and consequently, bought myself a Christmas present. [$] It's easy to set up, light, and I like the internal speakers. Not to get great sound from, (I've got it plugged into my stereo for that) but, it makes it easy to listen to what I'm doing when setting up to record, and makes it a portable stand-alone unit. I initially had skip problems, but that largely depends on the condition of the vinyl record. I taped a coin on the stylus arm and that helped a lot. Easy to record, but, need to use softwear to split the tracks. My units playback is a little slower than the actual recording, so again, I need to use softwear to get it back to the original speed. I had forgotten over the years how annoying it is to have to flip the album over after about 5 songs. However, once I recorded the albums on my mp3 player, now I can relisten to them through the mp3 player without interruption and with all the remote capabilities that we have grown accustomed to. I really like the ease in plugging my MP3 player into the unit, and consequently, my stereo, to get full dynamic speaker output. Also, the portability of the unit means I can easily pack it up and take it to any location. If you have a wall socket to plug it into, you can listen to your vinyl records, your MP3 player, or the radio. For the buck, it's a pretty good bang!

I received this as a gift for Christmas. After my boyfriend and I converted about 150 songs the player just stopped converting and when we try to play a record the speakers only put out about 1/4 the volume. However, the radio and the MP3 player produce full volume sound.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

First off, the sound quality is poor. The stylus used is cheap and there isn't a way to adjust the tone arm. There is no counter balance, no anti-skid dial, and I'm not even sure if you can replace the cartridge.

The USB and SD functions work great. Too bad that it's really not worth the sound recording. Also, I found if the unit is too loud, then it really changes the recording. There is clipping and it can easily pick up background noise.

I never tried the radio nor the external speakers.

I'll probably end up selling this and picking up the newly released ION that does the same thing.

Also, this is a replacement unit. The first one I got the tonearm broke during shipping.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I gave this as a Christmas gift to my parents. I don't think they have even looked at since opening. I did use it to convert some old records for them to MP3s. It was extremely time consuming and painful. We had 3 very competant adults working on converting 4 records over a multi-hour period. This certainly gets the job done, and the sound quality was good. However, it was a very frustrating conversion process.

This was a gift for my father. He found it a bit difficult to use and had to read through the book as well as go to the website to use it corrrectly.
The turntable does not automatically add tracks so he had to record, pause, record and pause to make seperate tracks for each album he wanted to record.
Overall it is an ok device...Could use some improvements.

I hadn't owned a record player since I was a little kid, but was eager to try this one to convert some of the old records I find at garage sales, etc. It gets the job done for that, and hooks up easily to my iPod speakers when I want to play a record directly. I'm no expert, but I really like it.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

We purchased this item to downsize the LPs to CDs and MP3 format. It's been a lot of fun to listen to some of the really bad music from years ago as well as some of the really great music from years ago. It's very easy to use and very easy to figure out. Probably the worst thing about it is that you literally have to sit right next to it if you want each track to record as a separate file and not a whole side as one file. Very functional though. Small enough to place easily and light enough to move around as need arises.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I purchased this record player for my father. The man has an incredible old jazz vinyl collection and limited computer knowledge. I purchased him years back a product that allowed you to plug your turntable into your computer, but it left too much for him to figure out with the software, so he never used it. This christmas we nailed it! The turntable is soo easy to use! Everything is done on board and there is no editing on a computer involved! We spent the whole night listening and converting some of his old jazz LPs and even his old motown 45's to mp3. Now every week i receive a new mix cd of obscure jazz ( some that never made it to any other form other than vinyl ) from my old man! It's probably the best gift he's ever received, and he is totally hooked on it! Im thinking about getting one for myself as well!

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

The only skipping the needle does is on really bad albums.....and I think the (then) needle skipped 20 years ago, too!
I found the auto stop feature very helpful, and it does NOT cut off part of the record.
After saving albums to a flash drive (I have no MP3) it makes listening to the old records easy.
The radio is fairly selective, and I also use it (radio)as a receiver for my satellite radio.
As I said, the sound is tinny, but for the money I think it is a great product. (If you don't believe me, I saw a review of Brookstone's expensive Crosley that said it sounded tinny!)

I am sorry to say I am returning this item for the following reasons... The turntable is not stabelized to well so the needle does not make good contact.. It is necessary to push record after each track on lp you can not simply record the entire album. Transfer from device to pc is one step more after the others which make it to hard to use with less than satisfactory results...

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I have a vinyl LP collection that I haven't heard in almost 25 years. This iConvert record-to-MP3 player has brought my high school and college years back to life. The setup was easy but I recommend taping a penny on top of the stylus arm (above and behind the needle) - the extra weight seems to keep the needle moving forward without skipping for all but the largest scratches.

[Audacity software will help you edit out excess noise if you want to download and learn it.]

Higher bit rates helps make the MP3 converted music richer.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I purchased this because I love that it will play my MP3s without anything but a flash drive, though I've read that the flash reader may fail? I hope not.

My biggest problem is that this turntable needle skips more than any turntable that I've ever owned in my life. It is ridiculous how much the needle skips. If you walk near it, if it doesn't like the particular groove it's on, ANYTHING makes it skip -- so there is no point in using it to RECORD MP3s (which is one of the main reasons we bought it) because you will never get a clean recording.

How is it possible that in this day and age you can't get a better turntable than the ones we had in the 70s and 80s??? I'm very disappointed.

I got an SD card instead of a flash drive because of what I read in reviews. I would suggest the same for anyone else buying this item.

While this is a great way to get my vinyl onto the iPod the drawback is there is no pressure adjustment for the arm so skipping can be a problem. I used the manual to add the extra weight when I need it - so it really is good for something. The downside is the extra wear on the needle :(
Once I have the files (recording the whole side in a single file - don't even bother trying their stop and start suggestion) I use Acoustica Spin It Again to clean it and create the individual tracks - together they work quite well.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

Although advertised as a way to rip LPs to mp3, that seems to be an ancillary function. To record an album, the instructions require the user to use the remote control to stop and start recording between tracks. The problem is it takes about 10 seconds to close the file and begin recording the next and the time between tracks on the album I tried to record is about 5 seconds. Consequently, I miss the first 5 seconds of each song. The option provided in the directions is to lift the needle between each track. That is only practical if one is recording one or two tracks per album. Another review suggested putting the enire side into one file and using a software program to clean the pops and break up the tracks. If one wants to do that, one should run the output from the headphone jack in any turntable into the microphone jack in a laptop [$]This product is going back to the store.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

What a disappointment. A friend specifically travelled all the way to New York to bring this back to the UK.

Now I find that after turning it on, the entire unit, although it looks amazing, is actually very cheap and lightweight.

The well written manual does not indicate that the product should only be used with "light" classical music. I bought this with the idea of converting my priceless dance music collection to mp3s.

But after placing the needle on the first record, the flimsy and cheap stylus arm just skipped and jumped over the vinyl every time a kick drum occurred. I have now tried over 20 records, and every single one jumps.

I now own a useless piece of plastic. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT if you intend to use it for dance music.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

Just as the "one star" rater, I found that the arm skipped over the record and would not play on my first attempt. Then I read the simple instruction book and found that I needed to remove a protective cover from the stylus. I bought it as a Christmas gift for my son, but I wanted to try it out first. I was pleased with the sound and ease of use, based on my brief trial.

This was a great gift from my daughter. Set up was a breeze, although it didn't come with extensive instructions. The device works just as described, and I've used it often. Haven't tried any similar devices from other companies, but I would recommend this machine for any artist/musician serious about recording.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

This is a great little invention. There was so much music I had tucked away in record boxes that have since come to life. Very easy to operate and transfer music...music that could not be found or downloaded from the internet...just don't forget to flip the switch on the back of the unit so it does not stop before the end of the record. I have also found that if you want to record albums and you are quick enough, you can hit the record button 3 times between tracks and it will separate them..but you have to be quick

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I loved this from day one. I've transferred loads of songs and albums to mp3 and then on too my mp3 player and burned to CD.

Works best with software that can remove the noise and crackle from LPs.

Now, the problem. Today it has stopped transferring LPs to my USB stick displaying ERROR and then the recording stops. My computer doesn't have a card reader so if I need to start using the memory card I will need buy one and also a card reader.

I received this as a gift and will need to see if it's covered under warrantee.

So, while worked it was definitely 5 stars, now we'll have to wait and see.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

Useful in getting vinyl that I didn't or couldn't replace with DVDs into iTunes, and in that way, makes those albums 'new again'.
What's great is that it is a stand-alone turntable that has its own little speakers and does not have to be hooked up to either my stereo system OR my computer to work. Just plug in a flash drive or an SD card and play the record.
What isn't as great is that 1)You discover on your own that you need to turn the Auto Stop off. Otherwise every record you record gets the end messed up, because the turntable literally grinds to a halt in the middle of the final song. Until you figure this out, you think you have a faulty unit on your hands. (And this is true of BOTH albums and 45s.)
2) It's too hard to do each song of a full-length album separately--the way the owner's manual directs you to do, because it's too hard to manually put the needle down manually just right between tracks every time. (There is a cheap fix for this last problem. You can record a whole album side at a time, and THEN download a shareware program called MP3 Trimmer to help you divide your file up into individual songs. Neither iTunes nor Toast does this.) This problem took me some time and research to solve.
Once the user solves these two problems, this becomes a nice little item to own, particularly for the price
PS One more hint--wait till BOTH the USB AND the REC rectangle are flashing BEFORE you put the needle to the record--or else you'll cut off the beginning of the record, because it won't be encoding yet with just the USB icon flashing.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I am very pleased with this product. I'm not a technie and so I was a bit apprehensive but the iConvert is almost too easy. The resultant CD’s that I burned sound pretty good. The sound quality of the speakers in the unit isn’t great, but I didn’t buy it as a sound system. No big deal about recording individual tracks, just let the whole side play and then use a splitter program to put in breaks. This thing is really fun.

Manual insufficient - but tips here

Primary use:

Bottom Line:

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

So its super easy to set up and use. Turns vinyl tracks into MP3s instantly. Downside - have to record each track on your LP one at a time. Manual says push the record button to stop the recording and then push it fast again to start recording the next track. UNTRUE. You have to hit the record button TWICE to begin recording the next track. WHen I did that it worked fine.

Also, I tried to create a folder on the mem stick and then record the track. It failed and read error (manual has no trouble shooting section - shame on you guys). It turns out you can't create folders on your mem stick. You have to let the machine do it for you and then when transferring it to your computer you can then create your own folders (I assume so - have not tried yet).

Lastly you can record at different bit rates. The mannual does not say so but the higher the bit rate the more detailed is the recording (more data). Richer sound but picks up more scratches and take up more space on your computer.

Overall good machine but if you are a true audiophile you might go the preamp and recording software route.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

This is a very good unit. You don't need a computer to create the mp3 files, which great! The albums come over well, but if you have a slightly warped LP, that will transfer over and your final product will not sound that great.

All the 45's that I had stopped right before the end of the songs! I read, and reread about the unit and couldn't find anything that I may have been doing wrong. So, if you have 45s, you may want to rethink.

Bottom Line:

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

Out of the box and into use within thirty minutes; straight-forward directions easy to follow, making LP conversion to MP3 files fast and uncomplicated. Learning to use the remote to stop and start recording of individual tracks took some practice (and often depended on how the LP handled the timing between songs) and having to hang around while the LP played through to the end was time consuming. The unit sound itself is not the best -- the digitized MP3 tracks sounded better through my laptop speakers -- but listening to these long-neglected tracks was a "blast from the past" well worth the time invested.

I downloaded AUDACITY's free editing software to help clean up the digital files. The learning curve involved was steep but the results were again worth the effort involved (and can be easily turned into iPod-playable tracks).

All in all, an inexpensive, quick and easy way to get all those old record albums back into your music library.

Comments about iConvert™ USB Turntable:

I am a child of the 60's and have hundreds of albums. I have looked for a couple of years at several other machines costing upwards of $400. I saw this one and told the clerk "it had better work!" Well, it does. It literally took me less than five minutes to open the box, plug it in, insert a thumb drive, place a record and start recording. It was great. The only negative is the very cheap sounding internal speakers. But, since I'm converting the MP3 to disk for home and car, I can live with the cheap player speakers. Good product!
