We had just filled up the tank with gas and gotten on the road for a trip from L.A. to Palm Springs when the "Check Engine" light on my Infiniti came on. My girlfriend panicked, fearing we'd break down, and told me we needed to get it checked before going any further. I got off at the next exit, drove to a nearby strip mall and plugged my CarMD into the port under the dash. The problem: a loose gas cap. The result: I saved $50 or more that a mechanic would have charged, got right back on the freeway and was a hero to my girlfriend.

When I last went for my emissions smog test, I barely passed. I knew my catalytic converter was in bad shape, and my CarMD not only verified that but also told me how much I could expect to pay: about $1,000 for the repair work. I feel much more confident now talking to my mechanic about the situation and knowing that the check I write is going to be for the proper diagnosis and for the fair amount due
