The OCR is excellent: extremely accurate and fast. However, for reasons that I don't understand, the scanner on the bottom of the mouse is on the left side. As a result, if you are trying to scan a book, when you scan a page on your left, the mouse will not scan the right-most part of the text unless you move it over to partly cross onto the right-most page, which usually causes the scanning to be corrupted. You must instead turn the book upside down to get those left-most pages.

Suggestions:

1. One solution would have been to place the scanner lengthwise across the bottom of the mouse.

2. The software is good, but it could be made more efficient: To paste text into a Word doc, you must now click on Paste and then on Paste as text. Moving the choices up the button level would make this simpler.
3. You can also drag an icon over to the Word doc to paste the scan as text automatically, but this icon is on the far right of the interface. If this icon was on the far left, it would be easier to use. May seem like a small thing, but if you are scanning several pages, and use a large monitor, this rearrangement would be valuable.
3. The method of changing the orientation of the scan is good. However, a single Invert button to turn an image upside down would save much time.
4. There is an added button click that is not needed: Once the text or image is scanned in and one has the orientation one wants, you must click on OK and then choose to paste it in or save it, etc. Why not leave out the OK button entirely? Clicking any of the buttons in what is now the next step could equal OK + the next step.

These are all small suggestions, but together they would save ten seconds or so on some scans. Those seconds add up when you are scanning several pages.

But overall, this is a good small scanner. The OCR, as I said, is excellent.

Device worked perfect out of the box on my PC. Work flow well thought out so easy to understand its operation. Combined with Evernote this device is a game changer for those of us who clip from books, magazines, newspapers and documents. OCR works, but it would be nice if it also worked with a more robust OCR engine. At the current pricing this is a great value.

I use the scanner almost every day for important paperwork that I don't need to keep hard copies. I can reduce the clutter on my desk with this scanner. It works great for older pictures of any size.

IT is so difficult to keep this straight to create a proper scan that it's essentially useless.

I reload the (Mac) software every time it crashes - which is about 20% of the times I use it. When it works it is a very useful, portable, (take it to the library and save copying charges) device. Brookstone customer support keep telling me they will get back to me but never do.
When they get the software right this will be a great device.

Think of this as an your emergency scanner, you're on the road and JUST NEED to scan something - it will blow you away how easy it is to use and how good the scan is. You can go back/forth on a picture and it stitches perfectly; same on a full page document. The OCR on my airline reservation is perfect, letters, numbers, symbols, non-words, etc.
This is not made to replace your sheet-feeder/large-size flatbed high-speed scanner on your desk, just not its purpose, so the person who complained about doing multiple pages ... that is just a silly request of this scanner.
But even when not on the road ... I'm in Word and I need a put in a photo, no big scanner is needed, I run my mouse over it and click PASTE AS IMAGE and I'm done, it is REALLY THAT EASY.
With scanned text I can paste as image or AS TEXT and it does instant OCR and pastes the results.

I am the IT Director for a medical software company and Tech/hardware Consultant for over 30 yrs, I am usually not impressed w/most new stuff, it take a bit to WOW me ... I'm WOWED - as is my entire tech staff who just got a demo.

BUY ONE, you will not regret it - unless you are on a MAC, the box says Windows Vista, 7, etc, it does not list MAC of any type, so don't count on it (too bad but oh well).
