No one expected it from looking at him in his youth but Rocky Bleier went on to emerge as one of the best running backs of his era. Bleier's is a story of will courage and talent winning out over all obstacles. After a standout career at Notre Dame (1968), Bleier was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and an even more powerful team the U.S. Army. Bleier promptly went to serve in Vietnam. An ambush left him severely wounded in the left thigh and right leg and people wondered if a career in football was still within his grasp. It was. Bleier worked his way back and joined the Steelers where he helped lead them to four Super Bowl titles.
