One of the best reading bed light
Need to buy a new light which is a shame because the instrument is fine except for the bulbs which are no longer functioning.

I've had my light for over a year now. I've personally not experience the flickering that others have in their comments. I use mine for reading, but only about once a week; however, I use the light every day! I use it as a flashlight for walking around my house after I've turned off the lights. I also use it as a "mood" light when I don't want to light a candle. Simply laying it on a table facing up produces a glow to a room. Not having to worry about batteries is an obvious plus! I am typically away from my home two nights a week. I never go without this light.

Pros:
Adjustable, EASY TO USE
Cons:
Flickers when adjusted
Bottom Line:

I like this booklight. I've had a few in the past that were of poor quality and it seems this one will not break. It lights up the pages sufficiently to allow me to read in the dark (and I like to read in a bright room). The only problem is that the light flickers when adjusted.

flickering is a real problem

I have 2 Brookstone booklights and this is one of them. I like it much better than my other light because it's adjustable and produces a lot of light. HOWEVER: at some positions, the light flickers, so you have to readjust to a less than optimal position in order to get it to stop. AND you have to continuously move its position in order to illuminate various locations on the page(s) of the book. Better than some, but too expensive to really recommend it. Two stars for the amount of light.

The light goes out when you adjust the angle of the battery case. But with careful adjustment it can be made to come on again.

Adjustment or movement at either of the hinge points causes light to go out. Once it is lit, it is great, but keeping it still enough so that the light stays lit is next to impossible.
Best Booklight I've Found
By Costa Rica Slim
from Medford OR on 1/29/2008
Pros:
Adjustable, Attractive Design, Charge Lasts A Long Time, Diffused light, Easy To Assemble, Rechargable
Describe Yourself:
Do-It-Yourself
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I've tried many kinds, looking for the best booklight for reading in bed and on planes. All have fallen short until this one. It lights both pages of a paperback, and the charge lasts a long time. Being rechargable, it doesn't require replacement batteries, and will pay for itself over time. While the charger is heavy, the booklight isn't. For a weeklong trip, it's not even necessary to take the charger - reading a couple of hours a day will not deplete the charge enough to require the charger. On a two week trip to Costa Rica, we took the charger, but only had to use it once, after about a week and a half.
Now I need to buy another one for my wife.

Cons:

Bottom Line:

The book light is very bright, and has two levels of lighting. It will not disturb others around you, especially if you are reading and someone else is sleeping. Very useful and convent, and holds a long charge. However, when the light is readjusted, the light flickers or temporarily goes out.
