By watching the temperature rise on the display, it makes timing side dishes a breeze. Since I don't have to repeatedly stick a probe into what I am cooking, there are no lost juices. Excellent for cooking in the oven also. I've owned my for several years now. (HINT)If your's quits communicating and the batteries appear fine, replace the batteries and it will probably work fine. This is the only touchy thing about Grill Alert.

Set it, and go inside to finish the rest of the meal! The only thing you must remember is to carefully set it before each use. Setting it involves hitting the reset buttons on both pieces of the unit. We have enjoyed perfectly DONE meats. IT's FANTASTIC.

Seems to work well with steaks -- they came out great.
This thing is great when it works but Im on my third probe now and it gets expensive, I was told not to put it in the water when cleaning after the second one but it still stop working after about four mouths of use.

Had it since last Father's Day. No problem all summer. Went to use it last week and temperature reads irradic - between correct and 199. Hoping its the probe since the unit is expensive and was a gift from my daughters. I noticed that the replacement probe design appears different fron the original, hopefully a better design!

This is a great tool. For father's day I purchase a 2 inch thick Ribeye (about 30 oz. each) and grill them. I put the steaks directly over the fire. Some years the fire is hotter than others, however, using this tool the steaks always come out perfect: medium rare for me and the wife, and medium to well for my guests. I highly recommend this tool. Be careful not to get the probe over 500 degrees, though. It can "cook" the probe and kill it. Fortunately you can purchase additional probes.

I was looking for a fun gift for my technologically advanced husband, and it was a great find: it is wireless, it has a remote temperature sensor, and it talks. Don't recall DH being so amused with any other gift.
It's winter and we only used it once so far, but after reading several reviews I purchased a spare grill probe, just in case. I hope it lives through the summer. If it needs grill probes once in a while, it's not a big deal.

Being an avid griller, my husband loves our grill alert - he really likes how the grill alert enables him to be busy doing other things while easily monitoring the meat's exact temperature. I got this as a gift for my boss. He's only used it once, but he said he LOVED it! He said it was easy to use, and his meat was cooked to perfection! He did say that you just have to make sure the probe is in the thickest part of the meat and pushed far enough in to the middle. Definitely worth the money!

I used the Grill alert when smoking or cooking large meats that take several minutes or hours. For example Turkey, Chicken, or Brisket. I haven't used it for smaller cuts of meat. It is so convenant to just glance over at the monitor rather than open the oven or smoker to check the meat tempurature. I gave one to my sister for Christmas and she loved it!

We like fish slightly moist. There is no choice to adjust cooking temp for fish, chicken, turkey, pork and hamburger. Also, some prepared foods come with instructions to cook to a certain temp. I assumed that any cooking thermometer would allow this.

I used it to roast the turkey this year and it came out perfectly. It's very easy to set but you must use the temperatures that are preset for a particular meat. For example, in cooking the turkey I had to use the Hamburger medium setting so that it would alert me when it was at 160 degrees. Turkey is preset to 170 degrees.
I like being able to see the temperature as the meat is cooking.

Product works well. It accurately times the cooking time of the food. However it just stopped working after 6 months. Very disappointing.

Since I purchased this item, I have not had one entree grill item Come out wrong! l no longer worry about turning the meat over , and find that its so easy to get sidetracked from the BBQ- luckily the belt clipped remote warns you & announces time promptly for end setting. New friends are begging to savor my perfect BBQ now!

I LOVE USING THIS TO COOK WITH FOR MEATS IN THE OVEN.
This remote thermometer is great especially if you like to grill in the winter. I used it on Thanksgiving while grilling a turkey and it was nice to not have to keep going outside to check the temperature. It would be better if you could set specific temperatures rather than using pre-sets though.

Worked well for about 10 times, then went "kaput". I am hoping it's just the probe...even if it is, I would say it is not very durable. Also, I found mine to be about 5 degrees off...meaning if you want your steak @ 135 degrees, stop when the thermometer reads 130.

I used it for chicken kabobs and boneless chicken and found that it worked very well. The meat was juicy and well done. Before the Grill Alert I usually overcooked it and it was dry. I bought one for my son who really liked not having to constantly check on the meat.

Wonderful product - makes grilling so much easier. But, you can no longer get replacement probes, so it makes it useless.
Excellent when it works, however, the temp. probe does not stand up to careful use. Brookstone includes a replacement probe number(knowledge of weakness),however, enter the numer in their search box and nothing comes up.

My husband loves the fact that he doesn't have to stand right there watching the grill or having to come back to it repeatedly. He can go do other things (like play horseshoes) and come back when the temperature gets close to being done or when it tells him it is done.

I really like the concept. The remote function still works after three years and even after getting hot enough to melt the plastic housing.
One major issue, the wires in the braided sheilding break very easily where stainless steel tube is crimped around the braiding. That should be improved. I have had to replace 4 probes in 3 years.
Just put my Grill Alert away and was thinking how much I love it and wanted to write my first review ever. My husband and I were known as the neighborhood's worst grillers until we bought his device. Everything we grill comes out perfect every time. We also love the remote feature. We've had it for years now without any problems and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Worked fine, loved using it, then it suddenly stopped working. Store won't help, warranty won't replace. Sad - i would like to recommend it, but cannot based on poor quality.
