This is the perfect alarm clock and eliminates the need for a separate weather radio. If you want to be alerted to a serious weather hazard while you sleep, this is it. It features the MUST-HAVE weather radio feature: S.A.M.E. (specific area message encoding) that lets you set the counties you WANT to be awakened for, and blocks out all the rest. Otherwise, it's a nice, standard AM/FM digital clock radio with all the standard features, including backup battery, 2 alarm settings, etc.

Excellent controls and settings so there would be no false alarms for other areas. We like the fact that it is primarily a battery operated system with a transformer to run from an outlet instead of a battery backup. The alert lights stay on in case you miss the alarm and automatically go off at the end of the warning period.

First day we had it there were several storms and it alerted us quickly & accurately, which is what we bought it for. My personal opinions to improve the product:
1) redesign it! My decorating style is a modern/traditional - it sticks out like a sore thumb.
2) I can't see the time during the night. Granted it is on my husband's side and I'm as blind as a bat, but I could see our old alarm clock.
3) Option for multiple county alert. It is either 1 or all. We live within 10 miles of 2 other counties, so now we have to listen to each alert in the state of Ohio to be sure we get weather that is near us.
Overall though, I bought it to keep us safe. It has proven multiple times this summer that it will do just that. One day it was beautiful when the alert went off telling us there was a storm 15 miles away. By the time I got kids in house & toys picked up it was here causing severe damage to area properties!

I found the weather setting easy to set and liked the fact that you could narrow your counties and alerts.
I found it hard to turn off the alarm if you get up before it goes off.
I also found it hard to read the time on dim after the lights are off.

My aging father found it a snap to set up. Just as he was setting it up, the "Severe Thunderstorm" warning went up and son of a gun, that's just what happened.

Great to have especially when your sleeping and something occurs during those hours. Then you know about the conditions before they happen. Sometimes the reception's not the greatest but it is air waves after all.

Very effective in bad weather. Good alert time. Good volume. Easy to understand.
The major plus on this product is the fact that you can set it to only alert you to the weather issues you want to hear about.
I went to bed knowing there was a tornado watch, flash flood warning, high wind warning, but I didn't have sirens going off for each one as I have had on other products.
When a tornado warning happened, I did have the siren at the volume I had set. I listened to instructions and went for cover. Very reassuring and helpful.
Weather fanatic. Has woken me up during a few severe weather events during the night in NC. Keeps me up to date on watches and warnings in the area.

Just received, so cannot give a reliability report. However, very good looking and fits right into our kitchen counter area, with a no clutter look. So far, reception is great for the weather band. Easy to set up.

The clock/weather/radio is very easy to set up and use. It is so much nicer than the weather radio sold at other stores. However, the screen is almost impossible to see in the dark.

Actually my 73 Y.O. mother is using this product. Suggest making it stereo. Even if it is a little larger, fine. Suggest making warning/watch lights bigger for the people that are sight restricted.

We bought this for my parents to use in Florida. Last year they survived a severe tornado by jumping into the closet in the middle of the night while parts of their house were blown to bits. If it should ever happen again, hopefully they will be forewarned.

We live in the Midwest and weather is always unpredictable. My wife is a bit of a worrier, so having this weather watch radio really helps her sleep better knowing that we will be aware of severe weather in our immediate area 24 hours a day.

I bought this radio for my son and his family who live in Missouri and have frequent tornado alerts and ice storms, severe thunder storms, etc. We thought it would give them a little "heads up" if an alert comes during the night. Of course we have not had time to see how it works, but everything set up easily. We will have a little more peace of mind knowing they will have an alert if a storm comes along.

great little radio,nice features..I like that I can turn on or off the alarm for all alerts...AND it is not hard to program,,, just read the manual,,if you can run a cell phone you can program and run this radio
The menus for changing alarm settings are difficult to navigate. The display is difficult to read, even with the backlight turned-on. The backlight is either on all the time (annoying at night), or can be set to come on for 5 seconds when a button is pressed - but this is not enough time to try to figure out your next move when setting an alarm.

size is easily packable & not terrible heavy....good to take along in case of weather this time of year....small enough to be portable but large enough for the job while not taking up the entire nightstand

Practical way to have a weather alert system in the bedroom to monitor local weather. It's the only weather radio I could find that has all the features of a radio and alarm clock as well as the SAME technology.

I bought item c576728 since it said it was a smartset weather alarm clock radio in the catalog and on the website. This has battery back up but does not have smart set technology as stated. I would have rated it a five if it had the smart set technology. The weather notification is great and will be helpful during the first tornada warning in the middle of the night. Please read instructions to set based on the notifications you want to hear. Can truly be a life saver.

Might want to add a button that skips the next day alarm call,then goes back to origional preset programing.
