Effctive but slow process for preserving old slides in a digital format. Software with component is somewhat weak but I'm able to use my own photo editing software to improve the images with little difficulty.

I love the product. Recommend it to anyone who wants to turn old slides into photos.

This seems better then a camera attachment I have tryed. It seems a little faster on the transfering of slides. Wish it came with a better manual, too small type. Also a better photo editing software, and more info on brighting and darking of slides for better prints to be made. Also if there were Positive slide holders available for purchase, it would help speed up the process by having two people working on the project.

I am thrilled. My dad passed away a few years ago and all his old family photos were on 35 mm slides. Not likely I'll be setting up his old projector to see these, but now I can see them and make CDs for family members. I am absolutely delighted! Best thing I've found in years at Brookstone. THANK YOU!!!!!!

This gadget did exactly what I wanted for my 80+ yo parents. Yep, they can use it.

I am reviewing slides made in the 1950s and 1960s that are not easily observed because 35mm slide projectors are no longer in vogue. We do not sit down as a group to review the slides; however, individually we might review the slides on our computers if they are digitized. This product makes it happen!

Bought this for my 82-year-old dad, so he could scan in old slides. He got it working on his own, although he did point out the mechanism for the slides is rather difficult and fragile. He needed my help to figure out where the scanned in slides were on his computer, which I got by googling the model number and looking through the manual.
I have used it scan a about 50 slides. Software locked computer up twice, but other than that quality is good.
This was a gift for my parents. It's a great solution for years and years of slides and more negatives than I can count. We are finally able to really enjoy all the old pictures. The product is very easy to use. My parents couldn't be happier
When my mother moved from her home of over 50 years, I inherited the family slides. They were still in the old machine. Now I am able to make copies of the slides for my brother and sister so we all can enjoy the memories.
It is small and easy to use but would like more trays.

Simple to set-up and use. While the editing program is very good, would recommend a slide cleaner (e.g. compressed air and brush) to get surface dust off of slide/negative before scanning for great initial clarity.

Connecting the scanner to the PC is very easy and within minutes the first negatives where scanned!
Use the product to convert 35mm slides to digital format. Have slides all the way back to the early 1960's.
This gadget will save my vast collection of slides and film that date back over 60 years, My results have been better than expected because my photos had always been protected from dust, etc. Surprisingly, if they were good quality when exposed, the get transferred with good quality.
The Mfr's instructions fall short of its capabilities. They told me to keep the scanner unplugged when not in use to prolong the life of the bulb inside. Also, opening the slots is easy once you do the first one correctly -- starting at the middle and then doing the sides.
I have transferred slides and both color and B&W film, editing them without any difficulty.
I have been using this to put my old photos and negatives on DVD for storage purposes.
This product let me be able to use my old and beautiful slides on plants and vegetation for my Microsoft Powerpoint presentations.
I have hundreds of old slides that need to be reviewed and stored. This provides a reasonable means to store them in a digital manner and then make them clean and crisp and easy to show to family. I have some slides that are over 50 years old and this method allows me to make them look like new and make everyone young again.
Awesome! We plugged it in and began using it within minutes. The quality of the scans is great, though you have to be patient - this is not a click and done product. After spending hundreds of dollars at a local photo processor to convert slides - this is a godsend!
Had 1700 slides that were quickly fading. This brought them into My Pictures very easily but I had a difficult time trying to copy them onto a DVD. Sure could have used some instructions. I also had to uninstall the software and install it again everytime I turned on the program - don't know whether it was me or the program, but overall it was quite easy for a novice like me to do!!!!
I tried out this product on the day I received it and was very pleased with how easy it is to use. Directions are very clear. Was really surprised by the quality of the photos from the negatives. I haven't tried copying the slides as yet, but I'm hoping for the same results.
I was looking to convert my vast slide collection to digital and this fills the bill. I looked at other devises that do this but only scan in lower resolution. This is also the most efficient with the slide carriages.
Three slides at a time is a little slow when you have as many as I do. It's a great product to get everything into a better format. Otherwise easy to use.
Used it as a gift to daughter and her husband--they were delighted at prospect of saving ALL old and new photos in new easy to use way.
I use this scanner to bring back my family memories to add a touch of pictoral reference for my study of geneaology.

I have 800 slides that were over 35 years old. I
needed to transfer them to my computer then to DVD. This saved them and I was able to share them with our family.
The only negative is its a slow process.
I like being able to recreate and make better old slides.
Fine for pre-selected slides.
See comments above. Two booklets for set up and use are provided but the print is very much too small; I needed a magnifying glass to read these and I have good eyesight. It is a pity to spoil a good product by making it difficult for the purchaser to set up and use thje product.
What a great product. So easy to use!
TO TRANSFER MY OLD SLIDES TO DIGITAL

I plan to use this to FINALLY copy all of the slides and negatives I have been planning to do for years. So much easier to use than what I have found in the past.
This is a great little product to get all those old slides organized on the computer. One of the down sides to this machine is it would be nice to have more than one slide tray so you could have more than one set of 3 slides ready to scan. The slide tray is made of plastic and is difficult to open and close. Also, I was under the impression this was a motorized unit but you have to manually "push" the slide tray through the scanner. Overall, it is a nice tool to have but could use some improvement
i have a regular scanner, but found this more convienent to use for my slides and negitives. it does a goods job scanning them in and is relitivly easy to use.
I finally will get all those old slides and negatives out of the boxes onto DVDs so my children can see their past lives. This makes it all so easy. The results are more than I expected.
I'm using this to recapture some slides my father took before he past.

Getting started can be a little tricky. Beware of making duplicates! I found the transfer not the same quality as the slide itself. Using Paint Shop or other editor tools helps. This can be extremely time consuming when you are transferring hundreds of slides! Be careful when using the cleaning tool. I scratched the lens without any effort. I recommend transferring in the highest quality catagory with every slide. I will recommend this product to capture lost memories but, don't expect exact duplication.
I have only scanned a few slides so far, and it seems to be a pretty good unit. The only problem I have had so far, is there seems to be some dust that I cannot clean, that is showing up on the scanned images.
Highly reccomend
Enjoying looking at old negatives of family members that are not here anymore and get to share the photos with family members!! Priceless
I was delighted to find such a useful product. I have seen scanners that will produce pictures from negatives, but the simplicity and user-friendliness of this product has been a lifesaver. Simply inserting a negative slide, pushing a button, and saving a photograph on the computer is awesome! I've pulled out my drawer full of negatives and have found pictures I forgot existed. They are wonderful to be able to transfer immediately to a digital photo frame.
Would better if you could load more slides at the same time

I would like for the tray to hold more slides, this would make it faster.
I can now have pictures of all my slides.
Excellent unit to update and store on modern technology all your old slides and/or negatives
I spent a long time looking for a reasonably priced piece of equipment to transfer a large slide collection to digital media. This is the one!! I just wish there was a way to make the process go a little faster, since I have several thousand slides to process.
Easy to use, but it does take time for the process, most slides transfer well, but those with a wide range of contrast seem to confuse it.
All my old pictures are now out of the boxes and digitzed - What a blessing!
Found some old slides that we really wanted to reproduce and upload to our computer. This slide converter was relatively inexpensive vs. having an outside vendor convert the photos.
The unit works OK, but the little door on the slide compartment has become loose and jams up inside the unit.
I'm really impressed, it's time consuming but well worth it. I was surprised at the quality of the photos when transferred to my computer. Now I can get rid of boxes of negatives. A great way to preserve photos from pre-digital days for future generations to enjoy.
The only minor flaw is, it's not obvious when the scan of a slide is complete. For some scans, I've been able to watch as the image builds in the preview window and others are so fast that I cannot identify the end point. Otherwise, a wonderful product that meets my needs.
easy to use, slides and negatives transfer to computer fantastic!!!!!
It's great to have updated photos of me as a kid. Now those old slides are on my computer and are easily printed out.
Very useful product for capturing old memories to digital photos.
Having been born in the 50's, most of the pictures made of me in my younger years were slides. This device has enabled me to capture a digital file from each slide to make prints, enhance, publish, etc. Having these memories is priceless, since there are very few prints of my early years. It is very easy to use.
I am so happy I am able to preserve all my families slides dating back to 1957. The slide tray only holds 3 slides at a time making it somewhat time consuming. It would be nice to have two trays to use of each (slide and negative). It took me awhile to figure out how to work the computer program but my slides are coming out looking like the picture was just taken.
i was able to copy all 35mm negatives back to the early 1950s and even copied parts of larger negatives from the early 1920s from our family photo collection. the quality was exceptional.
i wish they made a universal scanner like this one that would work on larger sizes.Great product and would highly recommend.
Easy to set up and to view old slides and negatives. Glad to see what I thought was lost.
The instructions need to be more detailed. It is easy to use and to set up but that's just the basics.
Wow, I love how it scanned the negatives! The slides are grainy, but that could be from being in storage for 40 years. It is easy to use, small, and easy to set up. I am thrilled!
With all the new technology, this will help us to organize the last 45 year's worth of photos and slides and help to clear out some some of our storage spaces! We can now minimize how we store our pictoral family history.
I can now save photos that my Father took and preserve a lot of memories. I hope to be able to use some of the photos as I continue to develop a family tree.
Great Quality and easy to use
What once was lost is now alive again! All your old slides - can now be digitzed! All your old negatives can come out of the boxes and envelopes -- and onto your computer - so they can be put in slideshows - emails - or screensavers. How awesome - and inexpensive!
This product makes it possible to make digital images of all your negatives so you can burn them to DVDs and never have to worry about losing your precious memories. For a scrapbooker, it is an invaluable tool.
This is the only unit I have seen to do slides to PC. I got it from Brookstone because they said it worked with Vista. It does but Vista is of course awful.
I found that doing the slides was very intuitive and not hard to do. Uploading was a problem and took 45 sec per slide.
I do admit I think that it is a Vist issue. I have gone back to XP and expect that it will be fine there.
