Still on the Fence
By skiheckmanVerified Reviewer from philadelphia, pa on 6/2/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Easy To Setup, Easy To Use, Quiet Operation, Sturdy, Well-built
Cons:
Not difficult enough
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I'm still on the fence regarding this product. An avid skier, I bought it to strengthen by bum knees (3x ACL repairs). The machine is exceptionally sturdy, and is generally fun, but I'm not sure it will provide the surfer's body as envisioned. You have to force yourself to get into a squatting position (where the resistance truly lies) it is too easy to stand up and just enjoy the ride...

This was an addition to my "Core Muscle" program. And it works, once you have overcome the Fear Factor! This baby seems dedicated to tossing you off. Fast. Of course, that is just what it is designed to do. After two months, I can surf for two to three minutes. The maximum suggested time is 15 minutes. Hey. I'm working on and will get there. You feel progress every use. It is fun to use and more fun to put your overconfident friends on for a brief ride. They will get off with a new perspective on your abilities. At current prices, it's a great deal. If you ski, board or water ski: get one!

I was recouperating after an illness, and this gadget totally raised my spirits. I loved it so
much. Trouble was I had no one to help take it up the stairs to where I could set it to use it...so that kind of sucked, since it weighs 52 pounds!

I've used this machine a few times since I bought/received this item and you definitely feel this in your legs. You definitely need to work out on this on a daily basis in order to see results. Also, I find the high mode to be the best option as opposed to the rotation btw. Low-Medium-High.

Disappointed
By Tot46Verified Reviewer from VA on 2/9/2008
Pros:
Easy To Use
Cons:
Boring, Bulky, Not Effective
Describe Yourself:
Competitive Athlete
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I thought it would be more fun and more challenging. After using it several times I do not seem to have any toning effect at all. Besides, it is very easy to get bored out of your mind with the repetitive movements. Bottom line: if you are a serious or semi-serious athlete, you will find this exerciser to be not challenging enough.

I love to use the uSurf and have it placed in front of the TV, so instead of being a couch potato I get up and surf. This has markedly improved my balance. It breaks up the mundane routine of aerobic - treadmill, elliptical or cycle. It's fun!

Pros:
Easy To Use, Sturdy
Cons:
Bulky
Describe Yourself:
Weekend Warrior
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this to bring something different to my workout routines. There are different settings, normal, fast and random. The remote is key to really usings the uSurf. It's a bit awkard to start because the remote must face the sensor which is on the bottom of the machine. The cord is a bit short so you may need an extension cord. The uSurf is pretty sturdy, almost bulky. I wouldn't be lifting it from room to room. My best guesstimate is it is about 60 lbs. with a awkard shape to lift.
Workouts are pretty good. I like to do leg squats and hold a position to feel my body stabilizing itself. The resistance bands for balance and arm workouts are okay. They are bands simply attached to the base of the uSurf. It's nice to have but not totally necessary.
After a couple minutes in one position; I can feel my leg muscles getting a workout. I like to hop on it if I'm watching TV. My little cousin(6 yrs old) likes to use it too. It's something fun that everyone can use.

Great leg workout but not so helpful on the arms.

Bottom Line:

At 64 I was afraid I'd be too old to enjoy this, but no way! It's a fun way to exercise while exploring those surfing and skateboarding fantasies I kept hidden for so long. The workouts are as enjoyable as they are strenuous, yet believe me I've had no problem stopping when I've had enough. I was afraid this gadget would just gather dust after a while, but after 6 weeks of uSurfing, I don't think so anymore.

I'm a total slug when it comes to working out because I can never find a work out that is fast, fun and produces results. The uSurf has become a great addition to our household. Myself, my wife and our 5 year old all enjoy it! I would recommend this to people that are already in decent shape. I'm feeling the results quickly (along with portion controlled eating and drinking lots of water).

Loosens me up, Losing Weight
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

I don't do all the exercises recommended. I like that it is easy and fun to use. I also use the unit to help me loosen up. Start with some easy shoulder shrugs and let the unit take control of your shoulder movements. Let it go with the flow. Also, I put my arms up in the air (arm motions of a gorilla/ape), let your arms swing with the motion. One more, spread your arms (not fully extended) to the sides (like a u-shape with hands pointing towards the front), again let the unit take control of the motion. After these loosening exercises, you'll be able to fall asleep better. Do at your own risk.

This machine is very unique and loads of fun. It does take up space and cannot be stored but we leave it set up in our living room and everybody loves it. People can't stay off it long. We play surfing movies on television and see who can surf the longest. I'm a gym rat, lift weights and do leg day at least once a week and this machine makes my glutes and calves ache. Would buy it again in a minute.
