Lift the top handle up and over, place the corkscrew over the top of the bottle on top of the cork, grip the handles and pull the top handle back, then lift the top handle up and over again and out comes your cork. Strong non-stick coated screw. This corkscrew is not meant for use with synthetic corks.

I would look at other models. This is low quality and not inexpensive. Broke after only 1 month in service. For a mechanically simple product, should last years. thankfully Brookstone showed outstanding customer service, very friendly and helped us resolve. Thank you Brookstone!
