I've had this warmer for over a month now and have learned a valuable lesson. You must use the correct type mug, one with a flat bottom.
I have these clear glass mugs from Anchor Hocking with flat bottoms, and I've been really pleased with the mug warmer. Keeps my coffee plenty hot enough. Well, the other day all the Anchor Hocking mugs with the flat bottoms were dirty and so I got another type of mug out of the cabinet. This mug did not have a flat bottom but had a raised rim underneath. When you set it on the mug warmer only this raised rim is touching the warmer's surface. As I expected the coffee did NOT stay hot at all. Next day I went back to using a flat bottom mug and everything was fine - the warmer kept the coffee good and hot the entire time. I work on the computer while the warmer keeps the coffee warm, and I can take 30 minutes to finish a cup (or longer). I wonder how many reviewers who gave the warmer bad reviews, claiming it did not keep their coffee hot, were using the wrong type mug? You really need to use a mug with a flat bottom. If it has a raised rim underneath then no mug warmer is going to "work" with it. Also, you must use a trivet underneath the warmer to protect your table or desk, for it gets quite hot when on. In my photo you will see the mug that "works" sitting on the warmer and the mug that doesn't work on the desk next to it. Notice the round raised rim on the bottom of the yellow mug. Only this raised rim is touching the warmer, so the warmer won't work as well. Using a mug with a flat bottom allows the entire bottom of the mug to come in contact with the warmer, and your coffee will stay hot this way.

This will GREATLY affect the ultimate temperature of your beverage.My Test Environment: I used a normal ceramic type coffee cup filled up to about 1/2 inch from the rim with black coffee.Opinion: The design of this item is perfect. Very attractive. I appreciate this, but didn't but it for looks. I wanted hot coffee, above all. That said... It keeps the coffee warm, NOT HOT. The warmer is too hot to touch with your finger. The only reason I say this is b/c some are not even hot when you touch them. It keeps the coffee warm, but nowhere near as hot as it is when it comes out of the pot off the brewer (which has a pot sized warmer). Unfortunately, you must pour another cup of coffee to get back to that original temp. The warmer is nowhere close to making coffe "hot." It may slow down the cooling process, but absolutely does not keep the coffee "hot." Great looks. Doesn't do the job I bought it for. If you find a better product, please let me know. brandon_rain[@]

It hit me that I may have been wrong in my 4/13/13 review where I said it smelled for the first week or so. It may be that the off-gassing is coming from my Starbucks mugs.
One more observation: it works better if it is turned on when the coffee is already hot, and not trying to use it to warm up cold coffee.
So sorry if I was wrong!

Don't let anyone tell you this doesn't work well. The effectiveness of this product is based mainly on the construction of your coffee cup. The amount of heat transferred from the heated surface (circular and 3.5" diameter) to the cup depends mainly on the surface area of the bottom of the cup DIRECTLY in contact with the heated surface.
Obviously, if your cup is insulated, or made of insulating material, it won't work well.
I use ceramic Starbucks cups and they have a very small extended edge (about 0.1" width) on the bottom, which means they only have about 1 square inch of direct contact with the heated surface. For me, when set on High, the coffee is perfect, but I don't like it really hot. A cup with more surface area would heat much better.
My only complaint is that the cup warmer smelled bad for the first week of use. There is something on the heated surface that is off-gassing when the heater is on. It takes at least 20 hours of heated use to remove the smell. I wish the manufacturer ran the heater long enough so the smell would go away.
I really like the 2 hour safety timer. I chose this model specifically because of it.

I bought this for my father as it's seemingly the only non-plastic warmer on the market. However, what isn't disclosed is that the warmer has a 2-hour shut-off feature. My father likes to keep his warmer on all day (I know, I know), so this makes this nice product fairly useless for him. I guess it's back to plastic unfortunately.

I really like my drink HOT! I want it to be just slightly below tounge burning. This warmer keeps it a notch below my favorite temperature - probably more acceptable to most people. But, it keeps it at least four levels hotter than the luke warm sludge I get from other warmers! I love it!

I'm happy to finally discover a coffee warmer with more than the usual features: finger touch pad at the front to adjust from low to high plate temperature, a convenient blue light to indicate that the plate is on and best of all, no annoying on/off toggle switch to hunt around for to turn the plate off. Very nice design. I'm looking forward to years of use on my night stand, next to the computer in my office and on the lamp table near my chair in the family room.

This is the greatest gift I ever received from a co-worker. My coffee was always getting cold at my desk and I was dumping half full cups which was just wasteful. I looked around for a few weeks for a good warmer for my coffee at work. 2 weeks ago I was at the mall and bought this out of sheer convenience, since i was right there. I do not regret the purchase.
I like the High/Low option (although i only ever use the High.) Some people complained on the size but I think this wamer easily fits any normal sized mug (I have used 3 different sizes)
Other people have commented that their coffee doesnt get hot enough. THAT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE USING THE WRONG KIND OF MUG. certain mugs conduct heat better than others. I am a potter (as a hobbby) and I like to use mugs that i have create - unfortunatly they dont conduct heat that well. So when I used my own ceramic mugs, my coffee was only warm. However, i recently got a different mug (I dont know the material) and it keeps my coffee quite hot. Today I actually used my heater to reheat a cup from yesterday (although it took some time)
Bottom Line: This product works well if you use the right type of mug. It also holds up well; my brother has had one for several years and it still works great. However, this product is very expensive compared to other brands... is it worth it? I cant say...

I love hot coffee and won't drink warm or tepid coffee. Most warmers (and I own 4 others) keep the coffee warm but not hot. This one keeps it HOT (as long as you are smart enough to use a flat bottom coffee cup). I love it and am coming back to buy another one.
