After considerable research, I recently purchased the Brookstone MightyMax Tower Fan and MiniMax Fan together because of the discount offered on the MiniMax. The eye-catching Brookstone fan advertisements were the only ones that included a photo of a person enjoying the fans. Both fans are sturdy and beautifully designed although, like nearly all tower fans on the market today, much of the product is made of reinforced plastic. I also purchased the Brookstone Protection Plus replacement warranty. The fans work flawlessly. I ordered them to reduce my air-conditioning use and expense.

I placed the MightyMax in the bedroom about four feet from the side of the bed, but the LED screen light is too bright for sleeping. So, I cover the screen with a folded-down (to avoid using scotch tape) 3" x 5" card and set the timer for when the fan should turn off. It works fine. Laying a small piece of cloth or a sock over the screen also works. (Don't cover the small remote receiver area below the LED screen in case you want to use the handy little remote to point to the fan and turn it off while in bed. Brookstone should definitely add a dimmer switch when it upgrades this product!) By the way, you'll need to purchase a pack of Triple-A batteries to use the remote.

The MightyMax was working fine, but one evening we had a thunderstorm, and the next day the fan would not turn on. I checked and discovered that the fuse included in the cable base had blown, so I replaced the blown fuse with the spare fuse included in the cable base. (You need a miniature screwdriver to dislodge the very tiny ceramic fuses in the base, and you must use care replacing the fuse to avoid breaking it or losing it.) To minimize the possibility of future blown fuses, I've since plugged the fan into a surge protector.

The MightyMax is whisper-quiet at low and medium settings. It gives out an audible whir at the highest setting, but the sound is not disruptive or overly intrusive. Using the oscillation setting, the MightyMax cools a broad area span extending out to approximately 15 feet. If you place the fan on the floor, the cooling effect will be severely limited by any nearby furniture. So, I placed the fan on a small, sturdy table, and the change made a great difference. There is a built-in handle on the top of the unit for convenience in moving the unit. I usually turn the fan on at the low setting when going to bed at night, and find that even on the warmest nights, with the fan placed about four feet from the side of my bed, I don't need air-conditioning unless the humidity climbs above about 70-75 degrees.

I use the small MiniMax on my desk or place it on an end table next to the sofa when watching TV. The MiniMax is a quiet little gem even at its highest setting, so there is no need to talk over it or turn up the TV sound at all. The MiniMax is so effective in cooling, it's surprising. It does not have a remote.

The MightyMax and MiniMax are wonderful fans well worth their price. I plan to order another MightyMax.

Terrible product for one reason, but its a big one. This fan is useless at night because of the ridiculously bright LCD panel that you cannot turn off. This thing is so bright that it casts shadows. Why Brookstone assumes that buyers looking for a fan also want a lighthouse in their bedroom is beyond me!

If you bought it partially for how's it looks, envision how your fairly expensive fan will look with a 5 inch piece of cardboard taped over the LCD.

    Poor job, Brookstone.

Comments about Mighty Max® Tower Fan:

I've had this and the mini for a few weeks now. I originally had an old Lasko tower fan and it started to get really noisy after having it for several years. I shopped around for something quieter and this one is. It's attractive looking too but it's not as powerful as the Lasko tower fan however I'm still satisfied with my purchase. Like the other reviews mentioned that blue light is SO bright that it does get annoying when you are trying to sleep but I just taped a old cc against it and it fixed the problem. The height of it could use a couple more inches because when I put it on our bedroom I have to set it on top of a small step stool in order for us to feel the wind...mind you we don't have one of those high beds either. The mini is great. This turned out to be taller than my old desk top tower fan. Can't really complain about the mini. It's just as strong as my old one but more attractive looking and of course much more quieter.

We keep it on low while we sleep. Breeze mode is too noisy to sleep by. It starts out on low speed then switches to high speed for a moment. The blue glow is to bright to sleep by. I have to cover it up with a cloth. Wish there is a way to turn the light off.

Comments about Mighty Max® Tower Fan:

I've always had a fan next to my bed but have had problems finding one that was quiet. I had an earlier version of this fan (half-dozen years old) and tried to find a fan other than Brookstone that would match its low noise level.

Despite a fairly extensive search in brick and mortar stores I failed to find a fan as quiet as this one.

Very easy to assemble. There are only two parts and they click together very easily and tighten with the included wing nut screws. The fan is light so assembly is both quick and easy for anyone to manage.

As virtually everyone else has mentioned, the LED light is very bright indeed but I, as has all that have mentioned the light, found an easy way to block the light. I used a baseball cap.

I don't use the remote so I don't know how long it would last with daily use.

The fan is very quiet. However (and I think I 'm not alone in this observation) the remote worked once, and then quit. A remote wasn't a big selling point for me, so I don't really care, I just think that the Brookstone name should bring with it total reliability. I guess I also wish the fan didn't beep when you turn it off and on, but that's nitpicky on my part. It fits the space we have it in, and it is quiet.

I love the strength of the fan and how quiet it is. Excellent to sleep with, however the display light is quite bright in a dark room. We remedy this by covering it, but this shouldn't be necessary. The positive point is...it beats all other fans that we have had. Great!

This tower fan is great! It moves the air in multiple- modes ... from high velocity to a gentle breeze. The remote is easy to use and the LED display is easy to read. The design has modern lines and fits any decor. We use the fan in the bedroom. It is quiet to the point that you only know it's on because of the air movement. Great product, great value. Would purchase the tower fan again.
