Lewis Chess Set
Faithful replica of the oldest complete set of chessmen ever discovered.
The Lewis Chess Set is the oldest complete set of chess men ever discovered, and we are proud to offer a faithful replica of this piece of the game’s history.
Discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, the Lewis Chess Pieces are probably the second most famous chess set design in the world after the standardized Staunton style, and the oldest complete set of chessmen ever discovered. The original pieces, found by a local shepherd, are on display in the British Museum and the Museum of Edinburgh; but Jaques of London are proud to offer our beautiful, high quality replica Lewis Chess Sets, handmade from ground marble resin to the original specifications (1.75" x 1.67" bases and a 3.5" high King piece).
Chess board not included.
