Comments about KOKO Charcoal:
I have been grilling for 10+ years and would really like to have a cleaner charcoal so I gave this a shot. "Burns, longer, hotter, cleaner." I used the recommended 22 coals for 4 - 6 people. It took three times to light using paper and vegetable oil, my normal way to start a grill. I even put some in the middle of the coals as recommended. I've never had this much trouble.
I let it heat up (30 min) and start some mushrooms and onions on skewers before I get to the meat. I must have left those veggies on there for at least 20 minutes and they never seared and just barely got cooked enough to eat. I did not spread out the coals but had them on one side to condense the heat. I never got to the meat because there was just never enough heat to cook, let alone sear.
Buyer beware. I will not buy again.

Comments about KOKO Charcoal:
I must admit I was skeptical of charcoal made from coconuts. I was afraid it would taste like a pina colada. Not at all! KOKO charcoal is soooo much better than other charcoal. It does NOT taste like chemicals at all (because it doesn't have any). It really is more efficient -- fewer briquettes go a long way.
Usually you expect a tradeoff when you buy a "green" product. KOKO charcoal doesn't have one. I call it "guilt-free" grilling because yes, it's eco-friendly. But even more important, it is healthy. No worries about dripping fat and carcinogens. For someone who BBQs 10 months out of the year, that is HUGE!!!
