I was looking for a new living room stereo that my family can use while entertaining guests, for general music during the day, and for family "dance party" every night after dinner (I have a 3 and a 6 year old). The unit I needed was going to utilize the 200 disc changer I own. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
As an alternative, I started to explore the possibilities of using my iMac for music. What I ended up with is awesome.
I took all 200 cd's and burned them onto my iMac. I purchased a new Airport Express from Apple and this IDesign Tower. I now have thousands of tracks available to me in my Living room, via my iMac in my office.
The audio quality of this unit is tremendous. I read some comments about this unit not shaking the walls. All I can say is that I haven't even turned it up all the way yet because it gets too loud (btw, my living room is 12x16). The bass is deep and the dual top speakers "fill" half of my first floor with sound, not just my living room.
I don't use this iDesign tower exactly the way it was intended, I use it more as a speaker for my iMac. However, I did plug my iPod Nano into it, and the performance was outstanding.
FYI, I debated buying the Bose SoundDock vs. this unit. I personally didn't have shelf space available for the Bose, but I had plenty of floor space. This hides nicely in my corner and it was $50 cheaper than the Bose. I do not regret not buying the Bose, this item rocks.
Good luck in making your decision. I was in your shoes about a month ago....I chose wisely and I'm a happy customer.

When we got the unit home and unpacked it, I installed the docking insert recommended for the latest version of the I Pod Nano and it won't dock properly. Since that is the version now being sold by Apple, I feel that Brookstone should have that dock insert available, but they don't and have no idea when they will.Brookstone has a great product but they don't have a solution yet for us, or for anyone else that is purchasing the I Pod Nano with the shake to shuffle feature.

This product is great to use anywhere in your house for great sound. I could use it at a lower volume when I lived in an apartment so that I wouldn't disturb neighbors, and it sounded fantastic. It is also a great value. It is a little heavy but, I don't mind

I gave this product as a gift to my brother for Christmas last year and he absolutely loves the sound and look of this speaker. I recommend for anyone to buy this ipod player because the sound system is amazing. It's also an attractive furniture piece as well. You won't be disappointed.

I was seeking a way to fill a large room with music when I happened upon the Idesign Tower and read its positive customer reviews. Prompted out of indecision by a promotion opportunity, I have found the customer reviews to be accurate. The sound is surprisingly good, and I can compare it favorably with the tabletop Bose MP3 player which I also own. This tower is unbeatable for its price. As another reviewer pointed out, it is not compatible with newer Apple devices - such as my IPhone4, so will outlive its usefulness when my last compatible device breaks down. Still, it's an excellent temporary solution to my present need.

i really enjoy the speaker and use it almost everyday! I wish it was able to connect or link with other devices like appleTV or other speakers for a surround sound experience but over all it gives off good sound and looks sleek. Gets loud with strong bass and all my apple devices fit from my ipod nano to ipod touch and my phone! also love that it charges your apple device while playing music!
