I looked Online at a wide range of new Alarm Clock Radios.

Based on a close comparison, I chose this Brookstone Alarm Clock Radio because:

(1) Of its clear clock display from various places in an average sized bedroom;

(2) The ability to tell whether the device's alarm is set to go off (e.g. so that you don't oversleep in the morning) based upon a large button on this device's top that clearly is flush with this device's top when the alarm is *not* set to go off; and clearly is sticking up above the device's top when the alarm *is* set to go off.

(3) The flexibility of this device having an iPod dock both that both can serve as a selected music source for one's alarm, and simultaneously charges an iPod's battery while an iPod is inserted on this device.

(4) I was looking for an alarm clock with a battery back-up, so that if the electricity went off briefly during the night while I was asleep, then my alarm still would remain set to wake me up at the whatever time I had set for that morning.

(5) To my knowledge, this Brookstone Alarm Clock Radio is significantly more expensive than an average, ordinary Alarm Clock Radio (that does not have additional features such as an iPod Dock that you can use or not use).

My experience with this Brookstone Alarm Clock Radio had been that by and large, the extra money invested to have *this* clock is reflected in this device's noticeably physically high quality build (including real metal), and in the well-considered details in various aspects of the device.

For example, I did not realize that this Brookstone Alarm Clock Radio has 2 individual speakers (on its left and right sides). I don't yet have an iPod to test this device's sound/battery charging dock, but when I had set this devices alarm to wake me up using an FM classic rock (stereo signal) radio station, I was very impression by the fullness and richness of the music's sound from this devices stereo speakers.

This unanticipatedly great sound quality evoked a thought in me that this device also could be great if utilized as a free-standing music-listening component to listen to FM radio or iPod music on (in circumstances in which the alarm clock feature of this device is not even needed)!

The 2 things that I have not experienced as good are:

(1) With its included A.M. radio antenna connected, for some reason this Brookstone clock will not play any A.M. stations, including a news station that I like to wake up to. This seems strange because my old, lower quality clock radio that had no external A.M. or F.M. radio antenna(s), when placed in the same physical spot, transmits A.M. radio stations clearly.

(2) This 2nd point is less important to me than my 1st point, but I would like this Brookstone Alarm Clock - Radio to come with a simple plastic piece that could be fit right over the exposed iPod dock (intended especially for people who don't regularly [or at all] use this iPod dock for the time being, but just wanted to have the iPod Dock in case they later purchased an iPod).

I believe that a little top-matching plastic cover that easily could pop on and off of the component's (top-of-device) iPod dock indentation would make the (in my case, clearly visible in the room) component's top look aesthetically more sleek and flush would be an aesthetic improvement. (This way, there wouldn't be the visual detraction of a visibly-indented iPod dock including the standardized horizontal iPod contact prong sticking up from this Brookstone Alarm Clock - Radio's top.)

But overall, this Brookstone device has a high quality look and feel (including the visually prominent polished metal turnable dial on its top), such that this device blends in well with other high quality electronic equipment and high quality furniture that you may have right around it.

We got the product for a "bathroom" radio - for tunes while showering and getting ready. We love it because the reception is exceptionally great. Also great to have the IPod dock.

I love the idea of this, but its very bright, like having a bright nightlight on in the room.

In looking for an alarm clock, ease of operation is my number one priority. Setting a wake time is convenient on this clock because all relevant controls are on the top of the clock, and you can move hour and minutes forward or back separately. Turning the alarm on and off is also simple. I only wish you could adjust the snooze time--maybe press snooze once for 10 minutes, twice for 20, etc. The gradual increase in volume is nice to wake up to, as are my own tunes from iTunes. I'm glad there are multiple settings for the brightness of the display as well. And finally, because the clock charges my phone, that's one less cord on my bedside table!

great product that exceed what I have expected. Keeps my I Phone fully charged and allows me to wake up to music from my phone and of my choosing
