As far as geekettes go, I'm probably in the top 2 percentile! For decades I saved the boxes of practically everything I bought, after having regretted throwing a few out. So I started scanning them. It became a time consuming chore to break down the boxes and fit them on the flatbed, or cut and peel off the parts I needed, and strategically place them into the fewest number of scans. Didn't take long for it to become overwhelming and grow into a HUGE pile. Now I can take a dozen swipes in less time than it takes me to warm up the scanner bulb on the flatbeds. In a perfect world, my life would be digitized and paperless, just to the edge of insanity. I scan EVERYTHING. The pile of boxes can't hold a candle to the stacks of papers and receipts waiting their turn. But now I have hope!I can keep this thing right where I sort my mail and drop my receipts, and actually keep up with things as they come in. And I can mindlessly scan while I'm watching the tube, alleviating the guilt a bit.I also do warranty repair work (not involving computers), and have to check owners' paperwork proving warranty status. I'm a CYA kinda gal, so I spend time taking detailed notes, or even try to snap a few pics with my cell. Now I have the perfect, fast, compact answer.I was expecting to have to do a bit of editing, but this thing is amazingly intuitive. I can stand a box on it's edge and swipe 4" down the middle. It automatically crops out the background as long as there is some distinguishable difference, and it doesn't need as much as any other software I've used, and I haven't even stuck the Drivers and Utilities disc in yet. Very short learning curve. While waiting for this beauty to arrive, I had been pricing MicroSD cards, figuring my old retired 512MB and 2GB cards would fill up quickly. At High (600dpi) Color setting, a 1GB card holds a minimum of 220 letter-sized scans. Unless you need to scan all day, every day, why shell out the $ for extra storage you'll probably never use!The only improvements I could suggest would be a semi-pliable plastic cover (but slick so it would slide into the provided soft slip case) to protect the glass strip from dust and dog fur (I just don't understand how he has any left). There is already a groove going all the way around the product that it could snap on to and be removed very easily. And it would be nice to have the option to view your scan's progress if you're going to be near a PC anyway, so you can stop a bad scan and omit the whole review process. The error LED is a nice compromise though. At least it tells you if it KNOWS you aren't going to like the scan and it stops scanning. And it still keeps the scans so you can make the final decision. The rollers glide better than most similar products 20x its size. And at least the glass is slightly recessed to give it some degree of protection. In lieu of a cover for the glass strip, a microfiber case would have been better than the separate cloth that sticks to the inside of the nylon/polyester-like case, making it impossible to transport easily within the case, unless you want to keep it in a plastic bag and keep fishing it out. Speed, portability and ease of operation being critical factors, this would be the preferred way to go.Since the product still far exceeded my expectations, it was only fitting to give it 5 stars - it's definitely a keeper!

I jumped on this because at [$] with OCR software it would be the deal of the century. When I opened the package to install the "software" it turned out to be nothing but a URL to Abby's site where I could BUY software- minimum $99 more! Now it is not such a good deal but it is an excellent scanner. I was also disappointed that it does not scan biz cards. It has done a great job with old pictures and letters. Do understand that your true cost will be $198+ not the [$] that is advertised. At the $200+- price point there are several options that do include software.

Comments about iConvert® Portable Document and Photo Scanner:
I had over 1000 receipts in boxes and envelopes that I'd been saving for 25 years. I always feared that I'd lose the data, if there was ever a fire. The iconvert scanner made it easy to scan each receipt and then download it onto my computer (I, subsequently, put the data on a flashdrive and into a fireproof box.) I could scan a receipt in a second and didn't have to be super accurate in being straight or anything. If you go too fast, the red light comes on to let you know that it didn't read properly. I couldn't believe that I had all my receipts scanned in just a few hours over the course of three evenings! It is absolutely fantastic. Be advised that you will still need to rename each receipt, once it's on your computer (if desired). I only did that for the major items. It's still a whole lot easier to find a receipt scrolling through the pictures than trying to read crumpled paper receipts. Oh...and you will need a micro SD card before you can even start. I love this little gizmo. It is, honestly, one of the best things I've ever bought and a heckuva lot less expensive than those NeatDesk scanners!

This device is very handy to scan a wide variety of document types, including photos, receipts, recipes, or important papers. It does however seem to require a fairly steady hand and speed to capture a clearly scanned image. Integrates well with the computer using USB cable.

Comments about iConvert® Portable Document and Photo Scanner:
I bought this scanner especially to scan my tax receipts, and have found it easy to use. The one complaint is that the DVD that comes with it is made for PC, not macs, so I did have to go out and buy a Micro SD card which I wasn't planning to do. Once I got that though, I found this very easy to use, and I'm now planning to get more organized by scanning files and then recycling them!

Comments about iConvert® Portable Document and Photo Scanner:
I found the scanner to be very useful. I have been using it to scan surveys into a data file. These surveys are in bad shape, including pages of different sizes, many staples, and some discoloration. This hand scanner allowed me to scan these files so that I could back them up for data entry purposes. I would highly recommend this scanner to anyone working with documents such as mine. However, I have to admit that the scanning process can be quite cumbersome; I sometimes had to re-do scans that I did not scan "perfectly straight" and in an "even line."
