I've seen similar scanners, especially with HP and other printers and the scanners are not great. This one is pretty good. I can't seem to find a way to lighten the photos if they scan too dark as they go through but maybe my pc can make some of these better, it may just be the photo, so I can't blame the scanner there.

For saving your old black and white photos to your pc this is really a great product. I don't think anything else would do as good and the price, under $100, makes me happy. I'm the family archiver so I have many 100's of photos to scan.

I was excited at first use and then dissapointed when I realized that either I was not following directions properly or that I was not going to be satisfied with this product for scanning family photos.
It appears to need cleaned more frequently (every 50 scans) than I would have liked and appears to need steps to cleaning that would be tedious.
I was not sure if I was using the cleaning tools or cleaning sheet correctly due to no corresponding labeling.

      Comments about iConvert® Photo Scanner:

I scanned over 3,000 photos and have still more to do. It was overall a great scanner. I scanned my mother's, grandmother's, and great-grandmother's photos first, some dating back to 1900. All of the pictures were scanned in very high quality. Both black and white and color looked better after being scanned that the originals. The photos also scan larger than the originals and can be printed and still look great. The scanner did not rip any of the pictures.

After I finished the old photos, I moved onto my photos. It is very easy to scan large amounts of photos that are same size; just set the paper guide and scan.

The small issue with the scanner started to show up after the first thousand pictures. After a lot of pictures have been scanned to scanning space starts to get dirty. The dirt can stay in the scanner and show up and make marks on the digital copies of multiple pictures. So, make sure to clean the scanner after larger scanning sessions or if digital copies start to have marks.

The other issue with the scanner also started to show up after over a thousand pictures were scanned. The scanner would scan some of the pictures crooked. I found that guiding the picture with my finger on the other side of were the paper guide is kept the picture from scanning crooked.

In the past few hundred pictures I've scanned some of the pictures started to get stuck. The scanner would continue to try and feed the photo through, but it would not move. That would happen towards the end of large scanning sessions with hundreds of pictures. I found that if I stopped scanning photos for a few minutes then pictures would stop getting stuck. I think it was just an over use problem.

Even though there were a few issues, I managed to find ways to work around them. This scanner has been a very easy way to scan in all of my family photos and I feel much better knowing that they are on a computer in high resolution. I would highly recommend this scanner and will continue to use it to scan the rest of my photos.

I bought this a while ago, and when I finally pulled it out to use it, I cleaned it as instructed, and then found out I could not go any farther because I do not have an "SD Memory card." The costly product failed to contain it, and I did not know I needed to have it.

              Comments about iConvert® Photo Scanner:

I bought the scanner to capture my grandmother's old black and white photos and Polaroids. I scanned 120 photos; 24 had to be fed a second time because of an uneven feed or because they became stuck. I needed to clean with the wand two times and use the sheet feed three times. Just want users to be aware that for photos that may have dirt from age, it will not be as fast as more recent photos.

I scanned them all using the iConvert Photo Scanner and now we have a blast looking at all our old photos on the computer. Plus we can send them to friends & family! I love it! Highly reccomend!

I take the SD card out of the iConvert Scanner and load the prints onto my Windows Vista computer and then I load them on to my Apple Mac Mini computer. I am in the process of saving all of the old family photos going back to the 1940's. Now that they are JPEGS they can last forever, and I can give digital copies of all of the old photos to my sisters and cousins and other family members. I bought the slide scanner first and it works perfectly too.
Owning both scanners covers all bases.
