        Cool Motion Flying

This is a fun helicopter. I have a few. The cool thing about this is once you can fly well using the regular remote, you can do motion control to fly the copter around the room. Only thing is you just have to make sure you know which mode you're in. Nice and stable flight.

              GROUNDED

Here's the key words from the description "CHARGES FROM THE REMOTE" In layman terms...it uses the 6 AA batteries to charge, not a dedicated USB plug like most. It takes FOREVER to charge (actually 30 minutes, but in the eyes of a 5 year old, that is forever) and the flight time was less than 5 minutes. Not a good tradeoff. There are better units out there. For now, this chopper is grounded.

The bad review above describes how I flew at first. Take your time learning with very cautious controlling. You will tend to overcontrol and fly into the ceiling and walls. Take it easy and you will become proficient enough to land on a book.

Looked pretty neat, and the controller made it look it would be easy to control. Bought it and brought it home. Opened it up, and had to scrounge up SIX AA BATTERIES for the controller. After that it had to charge for a half hour. Finally was able to use, and it is nearly impossible to control. The helicopter hardly responds to throttle commands, and it seems as though you have no control over the direction at all. Sometimes if you press the throttle up only a little bit, the helicopter will go straight up to the ceiling and crash. After five measly units of use, the battery died so I had to charge it again. After it finished charging the second time, it took off into a wall as if it had a mind of it's own, and a balance weight broke off, so now the helicopter is unbalanced and it vibrates uncontrollably. I'm returning to the store tomorrow.

Gyropter II RC Helicopter with G-Sensor

                Customer Rating

                Gyropter II with Motion Control
The Gyropter II has 2 modes in which the "pilot" can fly: Traditional RC/Manual Mode and Motion Control Mode.

-Traditional RC/Manual Mode uses the standard control sticks on the remote to control the altitude (left control stick/throttle) and direction (forwards, backwards, turn left, turn right, combination of these - right control stick).

-Motion Control Mode allows the "pilot" to fly using gestures.  This unique feature requires the "pilot" to control the altitude of the helicopter using the left control stick (same as in traditional RC mode), but the "pilot" controls the helicopter's direction (forwards, backwards, left, right, combination of these) by tilting the controller in the direction they want the helicopter to fly.

The motion control mode is a unique and fun new feature that adds play value to the flight experience.  It works using a built-in G-Sensor in the remote control that reads the tilt of the controller and translates that tilt to control the helicopter's flight maneuvers.  It takes a little practice to get used to the gestures, and the gestures have to be definitive.

How to see which mode the Gyropter II is in:

                1. Turn the remote and the helicopter on. Wait approximately 10 seconds for the onboard computer to load (see instruction manual).

                2. While holding the controller PARALLEL to the ground, Lift the helicopter off the ground using the left throttle stick on the controller.  Hover the Gyropter at eye level.

                3. While keeping the controller parallel to the ground, move the directional control stick (stick on the right side) to the left or right.  If the helicopter turns left or right, you are in Manual Control Mode.

                4.  If the helicopter does not turn, while hovering the helicopter, sharply tilt the controller to the left or right (be sure not to tilt forwards or backwards).  If the helicopter rotates left or right, you are in Motion Control Mode.

                Notes for best results:
                a. To switch between Manual Control Mode and Motion Control Mode, press the button on the front right of the remote control ONE time.  Repeat the test above (steps 1-4) to verify that you are in the desired mode.

                b. The motion control mode has a high degree of sensitivity and requires some practice to learn how to fly.

                c. Fly in a large, open space when learning (indoors).

                d. Maintain a line of sight between the controller and the helicopter (point the controller in the direction of the helicopter) to avoid interference between the remote and the helicopter.
