Great Exhibition 8 Player Croquet Set
Fun for up to eight players with this inclusive, commemorative set.
There is no more important date for croquet than 1851, when John Jaques II’s new game "Croquet" was presented at the Great Exhibition.
Its subsequent growth in popularity was explosive, and before long Wimbledon Croquet Club was opened - later to embrace the newly invented game of Lawn Tennis. This fantastic deluxe croquet set celebrates this date, and has all of Jaques' finest competition components for serious Association croquet or the shorter Golf croquet or Short croquet versions.
There are two beautifully finished brass ringed Oxford mallets with scored faces, two Challenge models, two square Hampton models, and two polished hardwood Intermediate mallets ideal for the slightly younger player. This selection of fine mallets will accommodate all styles of play. Eight matching composite balls are held in two zipped canvas carry cases, and are double scored to aid ball control. The Association cast iron hoops and hoop drill are chosen by the Croquet Association for all their Domestic, International and Test Matches, and the wooden smasher mallet aids their insertion in lawn, after the hoop sites have been carefully watered. The deluxe eight-band hand-colored gold-lined winning post indicates order of play, and the set includes four court corner flags to show, at a glance, the corners of the court. Eight steel spring hoop clips are attached to each hoop successively during play to show a player's progress, and a set of ball marker pegs record a ball's position. Jaques' Basic Laws of Croquet is included and also Anton Gill’s Complete Guide, with many historical facts and illustrations plus much tactical advice on the game. The natural, stained deluxe pine box is reinforced for strength and has extra robust rope handles, a leather Jaques logo label and brass lockdown catches. A superb deluxe set to cherish.
