In a previous answer to a question about the weather resistance of the Escape 30 solar panel, the Merchant response: "Panels are meant to be in the weather so no worries". I have several of these panels that have remained outside for several (2-3) months. I have noticed that most of the screws around the solar cells have rust (photo attached circled in RED) while others have not yet rusted (photo attached circled in BLUE). I'm thinking of caulking over the non-rusted ones and to use a rust converter and then caulk the rusted ones. So far everything else appears to be good with this product.

I really liked this device; it was handy, easy to set up and keep in line with direct sunlight, and simple. It charged my Escape 150 rapidly.

However, the two latches that keep the briefcase closed both broke 3 days into a 12 day camping trip. Fortunately, this panel stayed at basecamp, so it wasn't moving around a whole lot, but it did keep flopping open when packing to come home, and unpacking at the house. I ended up having to secure the handles with duct tape until I could return it. I think I might try a Nomad 27.5 next.

I guess tiny plastic latches aren't the best engineering design on a hard use item, eh?

Briefcase design was the best system

By Ray Mac

Comments about Goal Zero Escape 30 Solar Panel Briefcase:

I have 2 Escape 30s. The tough, semi rugged case design is perfect for taking solar gear into the field. IMHO this a better and more robust design then the framed panels because they can take the abuse of riding in the back of my pick up with my gear to remote camp sites. They charge my 150 quick and chain together to power the 350 too. Sorry they quit making them. It was more expensive, but if you're camping with your gear, its money well spent

practical and convenient

By Tyler

Comments about Goal Zero Escape 30 Solar Panel Briefcase:

Had some good use out of it for the last month between long beach days and camping trips in Hawaii. Fits well in the car next to surf boards and tents. Paired it with a yeti 150 and it keeps my phone, tablet, GoPro, drone, speakers, and lights batteries all charged. Only drawback is that the small hooks inside that keep the briefcase together are just tiny pieces of plastic and one has already snapped off. Would have preferred at least a metal hook. Now it's a loose fit and I only imagine a few more uses from losing the other one. I'll have to wire wrap it shut then.

Briefcase ease

Comments about Goal Zero Escape 30 Solar Panel Briefcase:

I have thought that the brief case model (30watt) was the easiest way to be mobile. I use them with my yeti 1250 for outdoor activities that require power. Takes less space to carry and is an easy clean-up. Highly recommend them if you can find them for all out door activity that requires electric power. Don't leave home with out them.

Comments about Goal Zero Escape 30 Solar Panel Briefcase:

I use my briefcase solar panels to charge my battery on my off road camp trailer. Have a gas generator but leave it at home now nice to have a protected set of solar panels as it bounces around in the back of my jeep.

From what I am hearing Goal Zero isn't making these anymore. Hopefully they are making something similar for the future. This panel is WAY easier to use than the Boulder 30 with tripod. So much more portable and esay to set up and take down and move around.

Really love these panels, the built in protective case is awesome. My only question is why have they been discontinued? I suspect they have some upgrades planned... if anyone can shed light on this question it would be appreciated.
