I got this pressure cooker a year ago as a gift and it has turned out to be the most indispensable appliance in my kitchen. I don't know how I cooked without it! It is a time saver (though it does take some time to come to pressure)...recipes that simmer for 1 hour or more can usually be done in 30 mins. But most surprisingly is that the food tastes even better and more vibrant than with regular stovetop or oven simmering (it's definitely not a Crock Pot).
If you are new to pressure cooking, I recommend the book Pressure Perfect by Lorna Sass. In addition to the recipes, it gives lots of timing charts so you can adapt your favorite recipes to this style of cooking.
It's perfectly safe and I've never had a problem (I had heard of horror stories of grandma's pressure cooker exploding). It does take up quite a bit of space (check dimensions) but I'm glad I made room for it!
