This copter came out of the box and flew well on the very first day!
I was able to make about 20 flights and, after a small learning curve,
was able to hover and make circles around me, and land gently!
The only thing that I can think to add to this package is directions
on how to install the "Training Head"!
All in all this helecopter is fun and, with a small learning curve,
      easy to learn to fly!
The lights are great while flying in the evening! Beautiful!

It is important to explain that this is not a Hobby grade helicopter it is a toy. And as such it has toy grade performance. Toy helicopters are durable yes, but cheaply construted and unfixable. If your motor burns up you are completely out of luck, your helicopter then becomes an expensive paperweight which you can not fix. If you've gone past the sixty day replacement period your ganna be pretty sad.

The helicopter is to light to fly outside and as such cannot sustain controlled flight for long periods of time. At best out of the 30 or so flights I had with it, I was in 100% controll of it 2 or 3 of those. This was because of two things. A light breeze roughly 3 kph at its highest would make the heli start a left hand spin and confuse the gyroscope sending the heli to the ground, secondly the amount of tail rudder trim neccasary to keep the heli in a stable fight exausted the battery and made useing the tail rudder for turning to the right impossible, turning to the left simply confused the gyro and once again sent the heli to the ground.

The upside is I crashed it three times in the two weeks I owned it before the tail motor burned up and each time it suffered little to no damage. when it did finally die it was fifteen feet off the ground and fell hard without a scratch. Though the tail motor had burned up in midair for no reason.

This is not a helicopter you can take off at one side of a field fly to the other and back again, then land in the same spot. Its more of a get it in the air and try and keep it from smashing into the ground at 20 kph or into other peoples property type of heli. If you are looking to get a more controllable heli this is not the one. (Though that may not be what everyone is looking for and this heli can still be loads of fun)

You really need to do some hardcore reasearch online to find out why. Look up rc terms such as channels (important for a very stable heli!!), fixed pitch, collective pitch, multi rotor, hobby grade, toy grade. That way you can make an informed decision on a heli that suits your flying expectations.

Kudos to Brookstone for trying to get into the market, by offering a heli like this they have gotten me into a hobby that I will continue to enjoy for a long time, but they did so only by provideing a semi functional helicopter that drove me to research why it did not meet my expectations.

This is probably the best toy grade heli on the market and I believe that if their engineers did some research and adjusted the construction of this model it could be a great 3 channel heli for begginers. I.E. belt driven tail rotor, metal flybar rods instead of plastic, programable digital radio controller, solid metal rotor head, advanced gyroscopic stabilization chip, full assortment of replacement parts, and fixing the battery plugs to not have the locking mechanism on them that make you destroy the plug when you try and remove it from the charger! If they made these adjustments it would be such a nice, durable 3 channel 400 series begginer rc heli and great compitition to the hobby grades that dominate the market, but without those things its almost the exact same as well, any other toy heli, just only available at the mall.

I also applaude Brookstone for their return policy that let me take back the heli for a full refund with very little questions asked. If you find that what I have wrote here is what you expieriance also, they will be more than happy to let you return it WITHING 30 DAYS WITH THE RECIEPT AND ALL PACKAGEING for full purchase price. In that sense it may be a good idea to buy it simply to see if I as a reviewer am full of it, because as long as you have those two things brookstone will not let you down on a return and you will not be out anything, you'll simply have gained some expieriance.

I bought this heli when it had just been released, thus there were no helpfull reviews out on the web to steer me in the right direction. I only had the expieriance of a Brookstone clerk that had only ever flown Brookstone RC's. So I am really hopeing more reviews like the one I am currently posting will be posted in the future, more importantly by an avid toy helicopter enthusiast, as I have only owned 3 in the last 2 years.

Because it is very new it may get better over time, unfortunatly there are so far only 4 other reviews on the web except for mine so time will tell how many regular people feel as I do.

Good luck with whatever you purchase Brookston is a great store with lots of and cool electronic merchandise and great customer service. This Heli was just not for me, but that does not mean I won't go back for all their other great products

I literally just took it out of the box and the wings sheared off the main shaft. It is an expensive helicopter that is only good for sitting on a shelf. Although there was good customer service.

      • fun
      • Pretty Crash Resistant
      • Repair Parts Included

      Cons

      • Major Parts Are Spendy

      Best Uses

      • Best In Low Wind Settings
      • Fly In Large Grassy Area

Just to be clear, this helicopter can be destroyed or rendered inoperable with any serious crash, so take plenty of time to learn the controls. Best to fly it in a very wide-open grassy (to minimize hard landings) area. Also, it is helpful to have someone who knows about rc helicopters to coach a beginner.
Otherwise, this helicopter is a ton of fun to fly! It is very responsive to controls and the spotlight along with the flashing body lights are pretty spectacular at night.

I bought my helicopter 2 days ago and managed to squeeze in 30 minutes of FUN TIME until my son CRASHED it now it needs parts that are not in the repair kit. So I don't think I'll buy another one. my helicopter had a bad left turning problem, that the trim buttons did not seem to fix. It Was fun while it lasted. I would recommend to someone only if they had some RC helicopter flying time.

Cloud DSS Helicopter Performance and Des

      By Kenny

I use this product as a convenient way to engage in aerial r/c hobby activities and with the exception of charging the battery, this product comes ready to fly.
However, after having owned and flown five of these r/c aircraft, I've noticed several recurring design flaws: 1) the motor for the tail rotor dies within a week or does not respond appropriately, which renders the helicopter unable to produce counter-torque causing it to spin in circles uncontrollably; 2) the plastic rods, which connect the main rotor to the drive shaft in a manner that allows the blade to tilt forwards and backwards is delicate and easily broken, rendering a completely uncontrollable helicopter. Using a stronger material or adding some type of covering piece to this part so as to reinforce its durability would definitely add to the longevity of this product; 3) three of the five Brookstone Cloud DSS helicopters I've owned lost their ability to produce lift within two weeks. I'm not sure if this due to battery or motor issues or combination of both, but either way, this problem could use attention in the form of more powerful, more reliable batteries and motors; 4) This product would be better if it were designed for or was sold with interchangeable li-po batteries so as to increase the duration of flight time from 10-12 minutes to however many charged li-po batteries one has purchased; 5) Finally, the black plastic that acts as the windshield on each of the helicopter heads should either made of a scratch resistant material and/or should come with two main black, grey, and purple, heads.
Overall, this product is very enjoyable and entertaining when it's working. Implementing and fixing the aforementioned suggestions would contribute to a longer lasting product and ultimately, less returns/exchanges.

Best to use in an open park or field, not near your house or your neighbors car. Learn how to hover the helicopter first and control it in front of you before you take to the skies for long distance flying. The practice body is a nice touch to the product to ensure you don't destroy your good body trying to learn to fly.

This was our first outdoor helicopter. I bought this for my husband as a gift. He has wanted an outdoor helicopter for a while now and I found this one. He really loved it! He read the instructions thoroughly, so he didn't mess anything up. He used the training head as recommended, since there was some trail and error at first. We recommend inspecting the main rotor before each flight to make sure all parts are intact. We crashed it a lot at first, but it is very durable and fun!
