Ok, we were so skeptical after the bad reviews, that when a 10yo asked for this for his birthday, our initial reaction was "Would he mind a different brand, or a book?" However, fortunately we contacted Brookstone about our concerns and they charged one up, synced it with OUR phone (Android Nexus 4) and then didn't pressure us at all!!?! We ended up getting two (one as another attendee's gift) and since we watched the setup at the store, we synced it to the ipod touches in a couple of minutes. The Tyson's employees even gave us two gift receipts in case the iphone/ipod sync wouldn't work.
If a little boy asks you to buy this, *please* don't avoid this because of the setup instructions. Go to the store (call ahead 45minutes to let them charge) and test it for yourself. The boys LOVED these and for more than 20 minutes. The battle, manual, maze, and personality modes all worked. We used a wall charger (the jack piece of a cell charger) which charges quickly and the Deskpets 2013 app (there are like 5 on Android). Also you can quiet this with a quick double-tap, and if you don't have a sibling, you can battle the personality-moded one. This is a superfun, great toy and the look on the child's face WILL be worth it when you set it up in a matter of minutes.

Novelty of using smart phone to control was attractive, however the app and documentation were not very attractive! Web site is terrible and the product is not much better. A great idea but poorly executed. With a bad product like that, they will be history soon unless they fix the problems. Because of only one drive wheel front and back, and unequal traction from side to side, the car turns constantly. they need to fix that major problem. And there is no ability to turn gradually; it is either full left or full right!!! Impossible to go in a straight line. I understand it is just a toy, however, kids or grown-up kids will tire soon from the lack of real control and value.
Returning product and will buy a traditional RC toy which is more bang for the buck.

The smart phone adapter is in the way while trying to control the car. It's advertised as a desk top toy. The speed and slow reactions of the vehicle make it impossible to use on desk or table top. The only enjoyment you can get out of this is on a large area (15' by 15') or bigger. Outdoor surfaces are too bumpy for this vehicle.

Havre tried several times to sink with iPod and iPad, light flashes on piece plugged into iPod, but can't steer with iPod. Tried turning car off and back on and car will only work in auto mode, not in remote mode. Please give me any suggestions on how to get them to work. Thanks

purchased as gift for co-workers and my spouse. They played for hours, literally, chasing each other and shooting each other - ONCE they learned how. They played like children, and that made it all worth it. Had initial trouble getting different channel assignments for their cars and then figuring controls. Now they race through the fire department daily.

As adorable as these are, they really do not provide much entertainment for an adult. It's cool that the iPhone can operate each car and the lights and sound offer up a little whimsy. But we used these once and are bored.

This thing is a joke. Only works on my I pad tried it on 4 different iPhone and one android didn't work on any of them. it's super slow and controls are a joke. This is a huge waste of money. Don't buy
