I am a 30 year old side sleeper, and I frequently wake up with neck pain that turns into a stiff neck. This neck pain can continue for days or even weeks, and about 6 months ago I finally decided I had to do something about it. I first tried the traditional tempurpedic neck pillow. The neck support is great, but it is so firm that I wake up in the middle of the night with ear pain from my ear being squashed up against my head. I tried a cheaper brand of memory foam neck pillow with similar results. Next I tried a high end department store down pillow. It felt great when I first laid down, and I fell asleep easily. However, it would flatten out in the night and I would wake up with my neck at a funny angle which led to more neck pain. Next I tried an expensive, advertises-on-late-night-tv brand of down alternative pillow with baffles. It seemed to have decent support while still being soft enough against my ear. I was happy for about a week until it started flattening out. I was nearing the end of my wits and my budget at this point!
I finally stumbled across Brookestone's biosense memory foam pillows, and I decided to order both the shoulder pillow and the neck pillow. I was a little skeptical about the curved shape of this pillow, I thought it sounded kind of gimicky, and wasn't likely to add anything to the comfort of the pillow. I thought I might need the neck pillow shape recommended for back sleepers in order to get the proper support. I am happy to say that this shoulder pillow exceeded my expectations! This is truly the best pillow I have ever used. It is supportive, soft and amazing. I really do think that their down alternative is better than down. It is soft, almost springy feeling, and doesn't flatten out the way down does. I sleep much better having the layer of softness against my face. The memory foam middle really does provide great support. The contour around the shoulder actually provides support for my shoulder, which I didn't even know I was missing! Plus, it feels nice to be able to sort of smoosh your shoulder up into the pillow. You can't really do that with the neck pillow, or a traditionally shaped memory foam pillow. When I first started using the pillow, I thought it felt a little tall, and I was nervous about it. However, within 2 nights my neck pain was gone, and I haven't had a stiff neck since! I have been using this pillow for about a month now. I really love this pillow, and will probably buy a back up for when this one wears out.
The biosense neck pillow is also nice, but definitely better for back sleeping. I do occasionally sleep on my back and it feels great for that. It isn't as comfortable as the shoulder pillow for side sleeping. It seems a little bit taller and firmer imo, and you don't get the shoulder support. So to answer my own question, yes....they really do know what they are talking about when they recommend the shoulder pillow for side sleepers. Highly recommended!

I purchased 2 pillows, one for me and my girlfriend. I have been using it for the last week and I sleep well on it, although it is not as comfortable as I thought it would be. I wish it was a bit softer. I have to press down with my head on the pillow to get it to sink in a bit lower. My girlfriend says she tried to sleep on it but her head sits too high on it and it hurts her neck. She says it is way too firm and it is only good for watching TV and use as a support. (She also removed the plastic and now she is unable to return it) Other than it being a bit firm for myself the design and quality definitely seem up to snuff - no problems there. Overall I say it's a decent pillow, I'm hoping it will soften up a bit in time. I knocked a star off because the firm issue and took another star off because it may not be for everyone (like my girlfriend). Try to go to a Brookstone store as opposed to buying online so you can feel if this will be the right pillow for you.

I have a lot of problems with my neck, so I need a pillow with very good support, but I do like a soft pillow as well and this pillow gives you both. I haven't had any neck problems since buying this pillow.

This is the third pillow I buy. I use to wake up with a stiff neck and, after buying every pillow I thought would help, I came across this pillow and I thought "why not", so I tried it. All I can say is"unbelievable"! That night I got the best sleep I'd had in a very long time. No more stiff neck and I feel great!!!! Conforms to my shoulder and supports both head and neck throughout the night. It's been such a wonderful experience I bought one for my girlfriend and my sister. They can't stop thanking me. This pillow has been a dream come true for me. It did take about two weeks to break in fully - it was too firm when it was new but did soften a bit with use. I now get the right amount of support and sleep better than I have in a long, long time. The inner firmer foam is encased in a fine down cover and offers the perfect balance of firmness and softness I was disappointed when washing the outer case. The down did not settle into place as smoothly as it should have and left a somewhat bumpy sleeping surface. It would have been perfect if it was sold with a standard type of pillow case that is easy to wash.

After one night of sleeping on the BioSense I noticed a difference. It does require some getting used to but I noticed the pillow seemed to stay cooler than my previous pillow and I felt no necessity to turn over or move to a cooler spot on the pillow during the night (big issue.) It does seem harder but I think I can learn to love it because it supports my neck which was not stiff or sore when I woke up (bigger issue.) Glad we found them. We are keeping them. Some might not like that it seems stiff but it's not hot after sleeping in one position for a long time and it is comfortable while being supportive even if I sleep on my back as others have also stated.

My boyfriend and I were both excited to try this pillow, but we both were extremely disappointed. To sleep on it for a whole night meant terrible neck and back pain in the morning. Maybe it would be okay for someone with extremely broad shoulders, but I ended up taking the way-too-dense foam pillow out and putting an old, smaller pillow in the pillow case thing. Better, but still a bit much. I really wish I could return it.

I'm a side sleeper, so I was excited to find this pillow. It's amazing! It gives me the perfect support, and the shape allows me to sleep comfortably. I also bought a new mattress, so now it is very difficult to want to get out of bed in the mornings!
