Take a seat, raise a glass!
Maybe you have a fully stocked home bar, or you're using a countertop to serve refreshments. The right bar or counter stools can make a world of difference both in terms of comfort, and for allowing guests to move about and mingle freely. As with everything else in today's world, choosing the right bar or counter stool can be complicated. Knowing what features to look for can make your purchase smooth and easy.
Brush up on Bar and Counter Stool basics.
Before you shop, consider these simple questions. Ask yourself how much room you have for the stools and take measurements to find out the exact number you will need. A standard rule is to allow 26-30 inches of space between the centers of each seat. Then, determine what the seat height must be. The average bar height is 40 inches to 42 inches. The bar stool seat height should be approximately 30 inches. The average countertop height is 36 inches. The counter stool seat height should be 24 inches to 26 inches. The basic rule of thumb is that the desired seat height for both types of stool is 10 to 12 inches less than the distance from the floor to the underside of the bar or countertop.
Features, features everywhere!
Do you want a bar or counter stool with a back, backless, armrests or one that swivels? What type of seat covering (fabric or leather, or none) appeals to you? And finally, how durable do the stools need to be, based on how frequently they'll be used. The answer to this question will help direct your choice of wood, aluminum or steel framed stools.
