I purchased this for my husband for Christmas. He's been looking at it for years and I had been researching the $300 full-priced one. The reviews on it were iffy. I read between the lines on the complaints and they basically led me to believe it just wasn't worth the price they were asking. Nothing really bad - just not working quite as well as you'd hope etc. I couldn't bring myself to drop the cash on the cool factor.
Then I read the reviews on the refurbished one. Confirmed my feeling on the "not worth it" factor of a "new" one. Great reviews. Everyone loved them and were having so much fun. I didn't hesitate when I confirmed that the warranty was the same.
My husband LOVES it. My kid loves it too. It's not HD, but we're just messing around with it, so who cares, right? The only issue is that if it gets too far away from the controller (iPad) it goes a bit haywire. This led to some tense moments where it divebombed our car and nearly got caught in a tree, but as it flew past, it got back under control and landed perfectly.
This thing is awesome and worth exactly what the refurbished item costs - but it's not worth the cost of a new one - HD camera or not.

I had my eye on the Parrot drone for some time, but the $300 price tag was a bit much. For [$] I got the refurb offered by Brookstone. Flew it about 5 times. Yeah it's fun, but there are some issues with it. The video sent to the iphone imho is not of sufficient quality to reliably control the craft. the new Parrot Drone announced at CES 2012 should correct this. the Sonic altimeter that the drone uses to maintain altitude - on mine at least- doesn't do it's job properly. it slowly looses altitude until it's idling on the ground. It also likes dropping onto people's heads when you pass over top of them. I have since moved up to 4 channel coaxial heli's sold in hobby stores. They cost a bit more than your typical heli, but less than the parrot and much more precise. Brookstone offers similar helis, but 3 channels, which are easier for beginners.

I purchased the AR Drone on 4/4/13. First the Battery would not take a charge. After waiting a week to get a replacement, I charged the new one and the Drone would not sync up to iPad. After another 3 days of troubleshooting I ended up having to send the unit back to AR Drone Repairs. I have been waiting to try this unit but have not even been able to turn it on.

This is old and does not have the cameras that the newer version does.
In addition, the order was delayed by over a month, when I rec'd it, big disappointment.

This thing is the biggest piece of junk! The first time I flied it got up for about three minutes and crashed! It has horrible mood swings and most days it won't even work it gets good in the air then it will say cut out emergency while it is plummeting to the ground.

I purchased my first one and lost the wifi connection mid air causing it to crash badly and break.
The second one I purchased has a mind of it's own and does not keep altitude when idle.
I could only return the second one since it did not crash yet.

When this thing is working its definitely an amazing toy. Unfortunately, it only works half the time. It will be flying along just fine and then inexplicably a Cut Out Emergency will occur and then it just crashes. Which is not good for it, by the way. I cracked the indoor hull on the first flight as a result of this. This was fixed easily with super glue but definitely didn't inspire confidence in the longevity of this pricey toy.
I've used this drone for about a month and it continues to be hot and cold. When it's not having issues it's a ton of fun to fly- very cool and easy to zip around the backyard. When it's having an off day it's infuriating.

Learn and have fun at the same time, I was not interested in spending retail but when I found the refurbished unit I knew I would be getting one sooner and later and I am happy I did. They are not for everyone but I love mine!

First it would be great to use but it doesn't work!! Have contacted Parrot support, and they sent a new battery for the 2.0 that will work in the 1.0 but the chargers are different...so no way to charge the new battery. Too many hoops to jump through to get this working. Also one of the motor control boards is burnt up, so if the battery was charged it probably still wouldn't work. About to call customer serv to have sent back!
