After 3 years with a Brookstone sound machine, I depend on the sound in order to sleep. Have found that the engineered sounds, particularly Celestial, sound strange initially but truly improve my quality of sleep. Enjoy the clock and the smaller size of the travel model, though the sound seems better on the full-size model. After a year, display started to malfunction after power outages--scrambled or completely blank. "Reset" button fixed the problem temporarily, but replacing backup battery offered more permanent solution. Definitely worth the money for those with trouble sleeping; try the backup battery & the reset button if you experience a problem with the display.

I have loved this product, but I have just experienced the death of my third one in less than three years. I love the machine, just wish it would keep working. Agree that the alarm volume needs to be adjustable. It isn't loud enough. Otherwise, great size for travel, and I can't sleep without the white noise. I take it everywhere with me. Make sure that you purchase the replacement plan.

I use another model of the Tranquil Moments sound machine at home nightly, so I bought this travel size machine about 1 1/2 years ago. I've probably traveled with it and used it maybe 12 times... until on a recent trip, when I went to use it and nothing happened. I've had trouble sometimes with the power cord on my other machine, so I purchased batteries to see if that was the problem. Nope... the machine is dead after limited use. You would think that something made for travel and at this cost, it would be more reliable.

I went camping for over 2 weeks and used this travel sound machine. It performed perfectly and I only had to change to batteries once! The directions were a little confusing so I had to experiment for awhile, but I finally figured it out and now I love it!

I live in the country, so this machine is a requirement when I travel. I've bought 6 or 7 of them. I wish they lasted longer, usually have to buy a replacement after a couple of years. For the cost, it should be better quality; but I can't find another source for a sound machine that plays all night. Alarm is not loud enough for me, no reason for not making the alarm ajustable for a product this expensive. I'm ordering a second one to use at the office to cover a colleague's constant loud talking, we'll see if it works!

Please note this isn't perfect as you read below but I am hoping people read this review to know the issues. It's a very good travel option for light sleepers but has a power problem that is fixable that is not very well known or talked about.
I am a very light sleeper and could use white noise or something to keep out the other stuff. I travel a lot for work and personal and sleep is problematic. They are great for traveling because they are relatively small to bring with you. The sounds aren't the greatest but they will work. I have the model before this which I believe has more sounds than this model.
I gave my friend the one here and both have the same PROBLEM! There is an issue when you change power sources like pull the batteries out or go off and on to AC power. I only learned this because I gave up on my old one when the screen went crazy with either very little showing or the screen showing everything possible that it has and frozen for all of them. It can be a multitude of different looks on screen but nothing will work. I loved mine so much that I just left it in a bag for couple years. I went shopping in Brookstone and saw the new model and an employee came over to try to assist me. I told him I loved my old one but it broke so it wasn't worth the money. He explained to me that there was an issue with the power cycling on the machine. That is if you pull the power source away when it is in a cycle mode (note I'm not an electrician in any way) that it can go on the fritz! He explained to me that there is a reset button that you have to press to get it back!
So hear this for the people going through this problem. There is like the smallest pinhole somewhere near the batteries section. You may have to take cover off to get to battery section to see it. It must have a power source that is good to go in place whether it's batteries or AC. Put a needle or ball point pen into it and press and hold it untl the screen comes back on correctly. This can take a long time depending. I have found that the newer model currently being sold is even more problematic than my older style one. My friend was ready to chuck it away but I got it to work twice for him. The first time was easy and I showed him. Months later he said it was totally dead and wouldn't reset.
I had heard that the internal battery like a watch or calculator battry inside must be inside and he took it out for some reason. We went to change the internal battery that keeps the time internally to allow a power change, thinking that was the problem. And it didn't work, but I went and held a pen to the reset button and the thing reset and has been problem free for him except for the occasional reset since.
For me, this is invaluable as a travel sleep aid. I use other devices when I am not traveling like a fan or other noise machine. This works for traveling light. But the power cycling issue is a pain if it acts up! If you are having problems and the screen is acting weird don't throw it out without trying to reset the thing! I have experience with both the previous model and new model and resetting sometimes takes multiple attempts with power going thru it. Just hold the reset button down or try again to make sure it's depressed as it's not easy to get to if you have a think ball point pen head.
I wish I could say thanks to the person at Brookstone who lead me to this reset issue. I had tried to talk to a couple of people there before that knew nothing about it. He was the only one to know about it. It's a shame. But he saved me my clock and got me to buy one for my friend in the end. Brookstone should be informing their sales people of this issue and trying to fix it.
I'm not sure if I should rate this review high or low to get people to read the reset problem as I think a lot of them have probably been thrown away when they haven't had to. It's not the greatest in terms of sleep sounds or options, but it probably one of the better travel ones around. It is poor because of the hassle of the reset button at same time, but that's fixable at least in my experience.
