Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
Beware: In the Istanbul airport, my bag going into checked luggage was pulled and opened for them to examine this convertor. It seems to be very durable, but it is VERY heavy. The built in adaptor is a plus.

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
I've traveled all over the world with this converter and have had very mixed experiences. In Europe ––where the name of the product says it is supposed to work–– the unit often has a hard time fitting into a socket; a little bit of forcing gets it in, and from there it seems to convert fine, but I always felt like I was damaging the places I was charging my stuff at. This really becomes a problem in South America, specifically Chile, where some of the outlets are similar to the construction to European outlets. Problem is, in South America the holes for connecting rods are a bit smaller despite similar outlet design, meaning the already too big converter is completely useless across the entire continent.
It may work decently in Europe, but it cannot really claim to work internationally when one cannot use this in half the world.

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
Unit is a bit heavy compared to the "1600 watt" universal adapter which we had previously. But at least this unit has a fuse and it does work fine for low current loads like a shaver.

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
Used it in Australia and the Carribean (St. Martin French side) with great results. Phone charger, laptop, camera battery charger. My wife plugged a hairdryer into it, which she shouldn't have, (85 watt max) and popped a fuse in the back. Replaced the fuse (comes with a spare) and it was back in working order.

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
I have been living in Spain for 3 months so far and this converter has been plugged in the entire time and is still working great. I have 3 others from 3 different companies ( I brought several as I didn't know which ones would work well)and this is the only one still working. I'm buying 2 more.

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
I had two of these - I call them brick converters because they are heavier than most but worth it. I loaned the two I had to my daughter and never got them back. We film lots of destination weddings and we have to be very careful with our equipment as if the electricity blows it out we're stuck and we would have to scramble to still find a way to film the wedding!
I'm going to the store this week to buy three more!

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
I just bought this for a friend in Brazil and have not tested it. It only needs to power a 22 watt Luxo lamp so I assume there will be be no problem. However, I wanted to report that it does come with a second (spare) fuse. Maybe this is an updated version from the one reviewed by Carole in Silver Spring.

Comments about Travel Converter for appliances up to 85 watts:
This product requires a fuse. My fuse blew out the first week of my trip. Imagine trying to get a fuse in Peru, and trying to explain in Spanish what you need. I've seen others that don't require a fuse and wish I bought one of those.
