Increase iPhone 3G battery life by several hours (2-3) during heavy use / battery intensive applications or make the iPhone last through a very long day (>11 hrs) with light usage. Charge the backup battery while you are running around ... and then charge your iPhone from the portable battery. I had one of the batteries go out and I simply had it replaced at Brookstone thanks to my protection plan (I use this battery a lot). The main problem is that the battery is a bit bulky relative to the connection and that represents a weakness of the design: the iPhone main data/charge connector does not appear to be designed to securely hold a battery of this size. I just put the battery away when I'm not using battery intensive application or when I'm not able to protect/support the interface site with my hand. Although you can have the battery plugged in while you walk with the phone, it makes the battery very vulnerable to damage due to bumping into something and makes me worry what would happen to the iPhone connector if there was a bending stress at the interface (I wouldn't want a broken iPhone connector).

Got this for travel, for when I can't get to a charger. It works, but is very slow to charge the phone. It never fully charges the phone either. Still, it's better than having a dead phone.
It's also bulky when attached to the iPhone and the connector is very flimsy. It's too easily detached from the phone when in use which makes the phone hard to charge unless you can sit the two down on a table while they charge, undisturbed.
Could definitely use some design improvements. There are better products out there (and cheaper, too), but I bought this on impulse in an airport instead of shopping around.

Ive had mine for over two years. Used it with pod, pad, and phone. Enough power for the pad, recharges the phone fully and pretty quickly. Recommended.

Handy to put in a briefcase or purse, lasts about 3 hours on an iPhone. When charging, adequate lights show during charging and when it's finished. Keep the plastic cover for the plug nearby, though. This has been a lifesaver many times!
