This is the best of the many products our family has purchased from Brookstone over many years. You can have lighting, run electrical appliances, charge portable electronics including laptops and cell phones and even run medical equipment during a power outage.
Dead battery? Not a problem - this device can save you from a random stranger or long wait for roadside assistance because of the included jumper cables.
We have purchased one for our use and four others as gifts and everyone has told us about some situation where this device has been incredibly helpful to them!!!!
Don't give it another thought. Buy it!!

Worked great for for the first year or so. Then, my power went out. Wanted to use the light but it wouldn't work. Tried the hand crank to charge it up. I cranked it for around a half an hour. Nothing. Still reads zero on the display. After the power came back on, I plugged it in to try and recharge it. It displayed a 100% charge for about 15 seconds and then it said recharge on the display. It does not keep charging. So now, after a little over a year, it's useless. Past the warranty period. Think twice before you spend over $200 for this device.

Took this with us on a recent trip out of town. Had no access to AC power but a lot of time to kill. Discovered when we got there my laptop battery was at 50% and I quickly took it down to 22% using free WiFi. Plugged it in and within an hour, the power in the Brookstone Power Supply was still at 75% and the power in my laptop was up over 60%, even with continued use. Very pleased with how well it worked. Love that it holds an AC charge so well but also happy I can crank away when I need to.

Seems like a great idea. But sometime between getting this and the first usage (about a year), I misplaced the AC Adapter. I'd prefer not to spend 6 hours recharging it with the hand crank, but Brookstone refuses to sell me a backup AC Adapter, and finding the exact right specifications for this on the web is a nightmare. Grrr....

Our home in the mountains has frequent winter power losses due to snow. We haven't had a power loss since we purchased the power supply, but I will feel much safer knowing that we are protected with power for our cell phones in the event of an outage. To me - this is something you need - along with extra food, water, and firewood, as protection for these type of events.
